Open Thread: The 2nd Round of the NFL Draft is under way....

What: 2008 NFL Draft
Where: Radio City Music Hall, New York
When: 6:40PM Est Time (Round 2)

Here we are, its FINALLY Draft Day!! I have no clue what todays events will bring. All I can say is I hope the Bucs inject speed and athleticism into this offense whether it be through the first, second, or third rounds. I've got my fingers crossed for a DJax or Jenkins Drafting, but to be honest, so long as we get a burner, i don't care if it comes in the form of a DJax, Donnie Avery (thanks PR), Devin Thomas, what have you. I'll be thoroughly disappointed if we don't get some electricity for the offense, because this draft allows for that beyond the 1st round... At any rate, hold on tight because we're in store for a loooong day!!! It could be three hours before the Bucs make that first selection!!

dang man
the Wide Receivers are starting to FLY off the board

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 6:49 PM EDT   0 recs

Jordy Nelson
is perfect for the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers, SOAB... dang, i hate that we lost out on him..

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 6:55 PM EDT   0 recs

man
i can't get over how quick Nelson went, sheesh...

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 7:14 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

we still have wideouts to choose from
Malcolm Kelly DeSean Jackson Limas Sweed Keenan Burton Andre Caldwell Earl Bennett James Hardy

I don't like our chances though

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 7:00 PM EDT   0 recs

I hear the Bucs are interested in James Hardy.....
Wouldn't it be sweet if Limas Sweed, Malcom Kelly, or DeSean Jackson fell in our laps? Unfortunately to get either I think they'll have to trade up. My prediction is that Bucs stand pat and draft a DT if none of the WR they want are available. Think Trevor Laws or Red Bryant.

by TheUltimateBucFan on Apr 26, 2008 7:14 PM EDT   0 recs

i'm praying
DeSean drops to us... that would be incredibly sweet... The Redskins pick just before us however! : (

I definitely think we got a shot at a contributer to the offense but it could go either way.. if they lose out, i think i'll vomit

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 7:16 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Sorry JScott!
I want a WR too, but if none are available I say they go DT. WOW! Jeremy Shockey didn't get traded to the Saints. Gotta be happy about that!

by TheUltimateBucFan on Apr 26, 2008 7:16 PM EDT   0 recs

i guess
it depends on how you view Shockey!! hah

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 7:16 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Ohhh
if Gruden goes Quarterback here.... my goodness

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 7:18 PM EDT   0 recs

Philly and Washington

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 7:19 PM EDT   0 recs

theres
Cincy ahead of us too... man oh man

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 7:19 PM EDT   0 recs

Good point but.....
Skins already picked Devon Thomas. Damn....Bills pick James Hardy

by TheUltimateBucFan on Apr 26, 2008 7:20 PM EDT   0 recs

Well.....
Take Eddie Royal off that list too. Man oh man, the wideouts are dropping off like flies.

by TheUltimateBucFan on Apr 26, 2008 7:24 PM EDT   0 recs

Hey JScott....
What are the chances the Bucs pick Brohm or Henne in the 2nd round?

by TheUltimateBucFan on Apr 26, 2008 7:27 PM EDT   0 recs

You heard it hear 1st
JScott has a massive coronary if Bucs trade up to pick Brohm or Henne! LMAO

Like whoah! Check this out from Stephen Holder....
DOLPHINS TRADING TAYLOR TO BUCS?
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 26, 2008, 7:08 p.m.
Stephen Holder of the St. Petersburg Times reports that the Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have already agreed to a trade that would send veteran defensive end Jason Taylor to Tampa.

The trade would apparently send the Bucs' second-round pick (52nd overall) to Miami, in exchange for Taylor, the 2006 NFL Defensive Player of the Year who has reportedly said that he would like to finish his career somewhere other than Miami. It is not clear whether any other picks would be involved in the trade.

Taylor has two years left on his contract and is scheduled to earn a combined $17 million in those two seasons, so it's likely that the Buccaneers would want him to restructure his contract, but there has been no word about such an agreement being reached between Taylor and the Bucs or any other team.

When asked about a potential trade, Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden was noncommittal, saying, "There have been some trade rumors and I don't think we're any different than anybody else. When you're talking about high-profile players, we're going to pick up the phone and see what's going on. It's part of our job."

by TheUltimateBucFan on Apr 26, 2008 7:33 PM EDT   0 recs

man
i dont know about that... the bucs must LOVE Antonio Bryant, thats all i can say

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 7:38 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

that would be hilarious for me though
as i bought my wife (who's from miami) a Jason Taylor jersey a couple years ago for christmas... a crazy full circle that would be... maybe it would get her to go to games more often : )

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 7:40 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

However......
Bucs choice of WR maybe still available:

Limas Sweed, DeSean Jackson, Malcom Kelly, Mario Manningham, Early Doucet....whoohooo!

by TheUltimateBucFan on Apr 26, 2008 7:39 PM EDT   0 recs

i would be satisfied with
any of those outside of Manningham, the guy is a mess

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 7:40 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

did you see that
Brian Brohm interview, haha

Mike Tirico "Have you heard from any West Coast Teams"

Brohm "Me and Jon Gruden had a good chat, they seem to like me down there"

no way

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 7:44 PM EDT   0 recs

there goes
Trevor Laws... i know a couple Bucs Fans wanted him, even as early as the 1st round

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 7:51 PM EDT   0 recs

CRAP!!!!
Philly picks Desean Jackson

by TheUltimateBucFan on Apr 26, 2008 7:52 PM EDT   0 recs

Nooooooooo
Bucs shouldn't have let this happen

by TheUltimateBucFan on Apr 26, 2008 7:53 PM EDT   0 recs

i'm speechless
Limas Sweed man, Limas Sweed.. what a joke

i hope Gruden drafts a QB

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 7:55 PM EDT   0 recs

Man...
Baby jebus is now sobbing like a little bitch.

by ghosthippo on Apr 26, 2008 7:57 PM EDT   0 recs

two picks away
damn, damn, damn

damn you PHILLY!!! LOL

i might have a Gruden esque profanity laced tirade coming up if Henne's name gets called

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 7:58 PM EDT   0 recs

Amen
Henne will be a BUST, that is all.

by ghosthippo on Apr 26, 2008 8:01 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Who will it be?
I say it's either Sweed or Malcom Kelly. They gotta have a WR. But watch, money says Gruden picks Brohm

by TheUltimateBucFan on Apr 26, 2008 7:59 PM EDT   0 recs

at least we dont play
Philly this year, that would hurt like no other... we do see Jordy Nelson however

i cant be overly pissed at the bucs though.. they took a gamble and who wouldnt with clearly one of the elite Corners on the board and they just barely lost out on DeSean... they probably would have passed on him anyway

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 8:02 PM EDT   0 recs

WTF???
Why god why?

by TheUltimateBucFan on Apr 26, 2008 8:07 PM EDT   0 recs

i cant figure out
what we traded for, the talking heads, keep talking and freaking talking

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 8:09 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

NO!!!!!
WTF... just.. why?

by ghosthippo on Apr 26, 2008 8:09 PM EDT   0 recs

it looks like we lost
our 2nd Round pick... what the frig

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 8:10 PM EDT   0 recs

nah,
just switched spots, 5th round pick and a 7th round in 09

by ghosthippo on Apr 26, 2008 8:14 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

this is lame as heck
its not like we got a whole lot of value out of our 5 picks last year thru rounds 5-7... head scratcher, especially with Sweed going off the board...

Maybe Talib will play WR while Wilson and Buchanon share time at CB, hah!

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 8:17 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

i think
we got the Jags 58th pick

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 8:14 PM EDT   0 recs

I'm confused.....
We only got a 5th and a 7th rounder......Why the hell would we do that? Now Limas Sweed is off the board to Pittsburgh. What a bunch of crap

by TheUltimateBucFan on Apr 26, 2008 8:14 PM EDT   0 recs

Seiously.....
I almost want to write off the Bucs front office (minus Doug Williams of course). I really don't get it. I know that Sweed is phsically along the lines of Clayton and Stovall but hell....they should have let em fight for a spot.

Only thing I can think of is that Gruden really wants Brohm and thinks he'll be there or maybe Ray Rice will be available. Very strange draft for me.

by TheUltimateBucFan on Apr 26, 2008 8:20 PM EDT   0 recs

I knew we'd change spots in the 2nd, but.....
I thought we'd get more than a 5th and 7th. I mean c'mon!

by TheUltimateBucFan on Apr 26, 2008 8:21 PM EDT   0 recs

there's still good value at wideout
Keenan Burton Lavelle Hawkins Early Doucet (tho i dont really care for him) Andre Caldwell

i think the bucs pass on a receiver here with the 58th pick

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 8:24 PM EDT   0 recs

WOWOWOOWOWOWOWW
Green Bay takes QB Brian Brohm, LOL, Move over Aaron Rodgers... wow

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 8:26 PM EDT   0 recs

Grrr....
Dammit, just a couple more spots =(

by ghosthippo on Apr 26, 2008 8:30 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

your boy
Johnson is still a possibility...

i'm just ecstatic Henne is gone, so Gruden cant make that mistake... that makes my night just about... if i could just get the tears to quit falling over DJax, geez what a let down

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 8:32 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I'll get over it...
Agreed, Henne would be the biggest mistake we could possibly have made in this draft, I wish we had traded up instead of down to get DJax, but there it is....

by ghosthippo on Apr 26, 2008 8:35 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

i hope
Brett Favre signs those retirement papers now

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 8:27 PM EDT   0 recs

and i hope
he takes Jake Plummer into the NFL Offices with him

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 8:28 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

There is a God.....
I think I would have lost my luch if we picked Brohm. Regardless of how much of a can't miss pick Mel Kiper says he is. If that was the case, why did every team pass him up? Some teams twice!

by TheUltimateBucFan on Apr 26, 2008 8:29 PM EDT   0 recs

NO WAY!!!!!!
That is AWESOME!!!!!! Henne to the Dolphins, what a laughing stock

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 8:30 PM EDT   0 recs

Here's a gamble...
How about Jamaal Charles RB out of Texas?

by TheUltimateBucFan on Apr 26, 2008 8:30 PM EDT   0 recs

i hope not man
if there's two positions that we have over kill in the roster department, its RB and QB.. granted alot of those guys are filler types

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 8:33 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I know I know
But I'm not sure the Bucs front office knows that

by TheUltimateBucFan on Apr 26, 2008 8:34 PM EDT   0 recs

Or?
Anyone for some Dexter Jackson?

by TheUltimateBucFan on Apr 26, 2008 8:36 PM EDT   0 recs

Could work well....
Fast as hell, could light it up, lets just hope he gets some play time! Closest thing to a DJax style receiver left on the board imo.

by ghosthippo on Apr 26, 2008 8:39 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

hey hey
We got a Jackson, heh

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 8:40 PM EDT   0 recs

Alright!
I just knew Dexter Jackson would come back to the Bucs! I see another SB MVP comin! On a more serious note, the Bucs should take Early Doucet if he's available. Or maybe Pat Sims DT out of Auburn. More likely though, the Bucs will pick Stump City out of Nowhere.

by TheUltimateBucFan on Apr 26, 2008 9:40 PM EDT   0 recs

haha
"Stump City" - i love it!!! I'm pretty excited about the picks we made out with.. and trading down in the 2nd netted us an extra 5th round pick and an 7th rounder for '09.. we'll need 'em

by JScott on Apr 26, 2008 9:51 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs
