Bucs quarterback roulette continues
With the announcement that the Bucs would start Johnson over Leftwich in Week 4 it made me realize something. In the 7 regular season games for the Buccaneers, they've had 4 different starting quarterbacks. That is ridiculous.
Brian Griese - Week 15 2008 - Loss to Falcons
Jeff Garcia - Week 16,17 2008 - Loss to Chargers & Raiders
Byron Leftwich - Week 1-3 2009, Loss to Cowboys, Bills & Giants
Josh Johnson - Week 4 -? 2009 - Not played.
It seems that the quarterback carousel is alive and well under our new head coach. This is pure speculation, but I have to believe that at the latest of Week 1 2010, Freeman will see the field as a starting quarterback which would put us at five starting quarterbacks in a 2 year period. It's hard for any organization, any scheme, any coach, any player to develop a rhythm, to develop accountability, and consistency when the position is flipped around so frequently.
Each quarterback that has started has had their obvious strengths and weaknesses. Johnson will bring better mobility than Garcia, an arm like Leftwich, and hopefully the decision making he showed in college with his 49 TD's and 1 INT in his senior season. As long as he remembers quarterback first, escape when necessary, I think he will be fine. The line needs to give him some time, the receivers need to help, and the coaches have to plan for him, adjust to his tendencies.
Josh Johnson gets his chance to shine on Sunday. It may be a one week cameo or may develop into a longer term situation. If I were him, I wouldn't bank on anything. The previous few years have shown that no QB is safe in Tampa.

Next game vs. Redskins
should give him an opprotunity to get adjusted as a starter. Haynesworth might make a play or two, but that will be the majority of the pressure. He can pick apart the Corners with the way Rodgers and Hall have played this year. And yes Sandy, I said something negative about DeAngelo. Josh Johnson should get comfortable real quick and have a solid game.
For weeks to come, Josh will face tougher defenses. So only time will tell.

I don't imagine this is going to stop anytime soon.
Also, Griese has strengths? Did he start only because of injury to Garcia, I can’t remember.

His perceived strength was his familiarity and ability to run Gruden's offense
He wasn’t a bad QB, just had the tendency to throw the ole pick 6 at the wrong time.

I believe it was due to injuries
Gruden was looking for his next Rich Gannon and Garcia was the closest thing to it. Didn’t Griese throw for 400yds in that lose to the Falcons?

No, threw for 269 yards in the loss. (14-13)
He started due to injury and it was the game we all thought McCown would start.
