2009; Unraveled

"I don't know what Josh Freeman could have done"

"I don't know what Josh Freeman could have done"

You ever get one of those shirts where you see a string loose. So you pull on it, and you keep pulling, and all the while your tearing the very fabric of your shirt apart.

Welcome to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; 2009 style. They have completely unraveled themselves.

86 Total Yards.

If it weren't for Josh Johnson's late game spark, it would have been 35. No matter. Not since the days of Steve Spurrier Quarterbacking the orange numbered Bucs have we been so offensively challenged. No were not talking Run & Gun Spurrier, were talking None & Done.

Call it payback from the football Gods. Many a Bucs teams would do THIS to the visiting team at Raymond James. But those days are gone too. An equally ineffective defense that now misses tackles on a quarterly basis can finally officially put a law suite in against the offense for lack of support!

When asked about what went wrong, coach Raheem Morris insisted its not fair to blame any one man, that the Bucs were simply out manned by a much better team. When asked if Josh Freeman or Josh Johnson will start playing next week, Raheem replied that the damage was done by more than just one person, and that he could not imagine any ONE play that Freeman would have made the difference. That no matter the end result, Josh Freeman at QB would not have mattered. I get that. I get it when he calls the Giants a Grown Man team, like the Bucs want to be someday. But are the Bucs that far away from the end product?

And you have to wonder, when you watched Josh Johnson move the sticks, would he have moved the chains  earlier in the game when it mattered?

One change for the positive; with all the negative press surrounding Sabby Piscitelli and his blunders from game one, it would appear he is making up for those over the last two weeks. On a monster sack, the Giants missed a short FG at the end of the half that would have appeared to give the Bucs new life.

So wouldnt they have tried to get some points before the half like they did against Dallas?

Upon further review, the Cowboys game appears to be a fluke. Mirrors or Magic, the kind  unseen around these parts since Sam Wyche and Ray Perkins. Running attack with Cadillac and Ward? POOF! Gone. Passing game? Kazzaam! Gone.

Up next for the Bucs is a road game in Washington with a Redskin team that is also struggling. It will be the last chance for a win until Carolina comes to town, or until the Bucs grow up and play Big Man football.

Our running game still exists somewhat.

But when Faine is out, and we have no threat of going downfield, the opposing team stacks the box and can shut us down. It’s a relatively easy adjustment for the defensive team.

Maybe...

but running the ball 10 times doesn’t help anyone look good.

You read my mind!

I mean we have other pressing needs, but backup center has to be one of them. You have to wonder how Aaron Sears plays in this. Zuttah probably would have moved over to Center. Who knows, we may see it happen.

The problem lies on First Down.

We averaged 3rd and 8 today.

They were constantly forcing us into throwing situations. We only ran the ball 10 times.

There was no way to run the ball other than to say

“Hey, even if you stop it, we’ll still run”. They cheated up on so many plays because they knew their DL would handle our OL and get to the QB on pass plays and didn’t need safety help over top. They took away the chance for down the field throws and that allowed them to just dominate our OL and running game.

Probably...

If the Bucs can not even compete against the Redskins in that game next week then the Bucs are worse than I have read or heard of.

Good god

the redskins suck- week 2 was a fluke as hell- 4 field goals and 1 measly friggin TD in 4 Redzone attempts against the RAMS- Nonetheless. I hope we don’t lose this game.

WHOO, LUKE! LUKE! LUKE!

You could say the same thing about the Bucs getting shut-out.

I don’t buy the revenge week motivation.

Fair Point...

but getting fired up lasts 3 plays. You still have to hit your blocking assignments.

Last week

people thought I was being too harsh on the coach, they were throwing around phrases like “rebuilding” and “first year give him a chance” this team is heading no-where fast, when does accountability start?

It depends on your expectations.

We warned you to lower them.

The sad thing is

my expectations were not that high, and they still came in under them

I think Morris deserves a lot of blame.

But so does every single player and coach in the organization. Not to mention Dominik and the Glazers.

Are you actually agreeeing with me?

because that is what I have been saying the whole team ownership and all is to blame they really made a lot of bad decisions how long will take to climb out of this?

by bucfanlostiniowa on Sep 27, 2009 10:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It depends on a lot of things.

I think the biggest is how the orginization responds to losing. That is why I think it is crucial for coaches to focus more on the locker room than it is winning. We aren’t going to win many games. However, if it turns on Morris, we lose far more than a season.

I haven't disagree with you about that.

I just don’t think Morris should be fired.

And this week nothing has changed...

Its still the first year, we are still rebuilding, and you still have no choice but to give him a chance.

I’ll probably write a more detailed post tomorrow, when I’m not, you know…impaired…but a lot of y’all have clearly lost touch with reality in the NFL this year already. This is what it is. Deal with it. Cowboy up or dedicate yourself to the Gators (if you aren’t already an alum) or Jets or Yankees or whoever else is going to be hot this year and piss off. The only reason the Super Bowl in ’03 was so great is because of every other year the Bucs made me miserable.

Till tomorrow…

Well Put El Soro

Go to nfl.com, look up team records, and youll see the patriots with the same kind of problem, heck everyone except pittsburgh. And why not pittsburgh? because they dont change coaches every 5 years. More like every 20.

All young coaches at it as well

This year we suffer and hope to see improvement in the weeks and months to come. The Bucs can only get better, so I say support them in this “youth movement”. Raheem was thought of as an up and comer last year by the NFL, so let’s give him a realistic chance. We have 13 left to play. We look like everyone’s practice squad right now, so I am sure we will surprise a couple of teams along the way.

should've at least kept brooks around for his leadership

if he has a chance to coach, I think he’ll end up at FSU as a LB coach
