Questions Yet To Be Answered

 Istockphoto_2228037-question-mark-box_medium

Who is going to be the third reciever?

Who's going to start at safety?

Can Matt Bryant make this team?

Star-divide

All of these questions are yet to be answered.

Maurice Stovall, Sammie Stroughter, and Briain Clark are still fighting to be the 3rd receiver. I would give the nod to Stovall at this time, based on his last game. He has the size and hands to be a nice option over the middle. Stroughter has the speed and quickness to also beat a safety deep.

At safety, looks like Jermaine Phillips will win his strong safety positon back, meaning Sabby Piscitelli will move over to free saftey. Will Allen will rotate will with these two during the game.

Unfortunely It doesn't look like Matt Bryant will be able to make this team. He hasn't been practicing because of injury, giving all the reps to Mike Nugent. Coach Morris hasn't ruled him out just yet, but it's not looking good.

Other notes of interest, both Antonio Bryant and Michael Clayton practiced today. Coach Morris said neither would play Friday night against the Texans.

I've said since the rookie minicamp...I think Stroughter will be the guy.

Sure he’s not as big as Stovall, but he’s quick, runs good routes, and has really good hands. From what I understand he hasn’t even taken a step back yet in camp. It’s all uphill from here. I believe he has the potential to surprise a lot of people this year, especially since he wasn’t taken until the 7th round (many team had him rated in the 4th and 5th rounds).

I think Matt Bryant’s injuries have probably cost him his job. Good Post.

I would love for Sammie to see time, He is dynamic.

But I think that Stovall is going to get the nod based on his size, his last game and Sammie stroughter can also be valuable on special teams. Stovall can give the bucs a big threat (6’5) across the middle. He appears to have improved alot from game 1 to game 3 this year. The problem is , we have two dynamic TE ‘s who are just big receivers. Stroughter has put in a GREAT Bid but I just think that Stovall will be the slot guy most of the time but I think Stroughter will have some packages when he is in instead of Stovall. I feel alot more comfortable now that I know Brian Clark or Cortez Stankton(i mean hankton) isn’t going to be the slot guy.

The battle I want to know is Urrutia or Brian Clark? I say BC Cause of special teams play.

I want to see Stovall do it in a real game

before I crown him the #3 guy. Stroughter is electric and can get it done, plus as tbbuc4 said above, with Winslow and Stevens, we need that shifty slot guy, not the tall threat, we have that already. But who ever produces can see the field.

as far as bryant the kicker

I think that if he comes back this week, he could get a shot to make the team but if not. I don’t see him making the 53 man roster , we already are looking at 4 Qbs, def don’t need 2 kickers. If he doesn’t come back this week, I think they will come out with some type of injury release package like Kelly Campbell got.

I'm still wondering if Nugent is here to just give Bryant a rest

I have no problem cutting someone who hasnt played at all in the preseason. We’ll find out by Sept 5th who made the team.

Regarding the Safety positon, i've heard from multiple sources...

that Flip is playing Free Safety. He is now a VERY heavy free safety. For those who do not know, the free safety is ‘usually’ the one that stays back to prevent deep plays (usually pass). I don’t understand why Flip isn’t moved back to strong safety (usually the run stopper) rather than what he’s at now.

With the bates sceme....

Both safties do the same job but the free has less responsibility than the strong. It is easier to play free because less reads to make.

Like with the off season

Out with the old in with the new. The moves that Morris and Dominik make might not be fan friendly but they will make them anyway. Matt Bryant will be let go, even though injuries held him back.

Stroughter should be the #3 guy because you can’t waist that much talent on the bench. Just like Parris Warren should have gotten more playing time a couple of years back.

This defense is going to be depth driven. Many substitutions all game long which is fine. It is better to have fresh legs on average players then tired legs on good players.

The real question is when are we going to win our first game and will next off season be as lack luster as this past off season.
