Morris Made The Right Call
Byron Leftwich should be the starter
I think Coach Morris made the right call in making Leftwich the starting quarterback on opening day. Leftwich has the experience and arm strength you need. His decision making was much better than Luke McCown's. Watching the game on thursday, Leftwich was willing to stay in the pocket and make the throw. McCown was ready to scramble at a moment's notice.
I also think we should not trade McCown, Leftwich has never made it through a 16 game schedule. And I don't believe the 21 year old rookie Josh Freeman should even step onto the field this year.
Leftwich has made less than 50% of his passes this pre-season. That should improve with injured starters Antonio Bryant and Michael Clayton back in the starting lineup. Also Leftwich has a career 58.6 completion percentage.
Leftwich is a better fit in the Bucs run first, play action offensive philosophy. The Bucs aren't going to be throwing the ball 40 plus times a game this season. The Bucs are going to be grind it out, time of possesion kind of offense. You will see some big plays from Leftwich this season, with the addition of tight end Kellen Winslow and wideouts Bryant and Clayton, There will be many.

Great article...
If this is your first one, you have a bright future. I think that you hit on some good points. I really think that people were to focused on the missed throws but the thing that a coach is looking for in pre-season is reads. He wants to see the right reads made and Leftwich made alot of right reads. He saw the blitz and he delivered the ball before he got sacked, he did overthrow but thats not that important to a coach.
I just felt like Luke was reacting to SLOW! He saw blitz coming and decided to get sacked or run , he didn’t give his receivers that many chances to make plays. He also showed that he doesn’t have the ability to stretch the defense so the run can be successful. Morris knew that the defense would put 8 in the box on him because he doesn’t know how to push the ball downfield. He is content with he nickname as morris called it “CheckDown McCown”
