Tuesday Morning Links for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

One of the features I want to have on the site is a fairly regular story containing links and stories for the Bucs from around the internet. This won't be a daily feature, but will provide some quick info without you having to do any of the searching.
New Starting Nickelback - The competition looks to be between two players, Elbert Mack and Torrie Cox. A few new players could challenge for the spot since none of these players are familiar with the new 4-3 scheme. Mack should be the favorite going into camp though.
Could the Bucs surprise in 09? - A quick recap of the busy offseason for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A comparison is also made to the 2008 Atlanta Falcons with the question posed "Why can't the Bucs use a similar formula in 2009?". My answer? Maybe we can duplicate that success, but I'm not holding my breath.
Is Morris already on the hot seat? - A look at all 32 head coaches and their apparent positions on the so-called hot seat going into 2009. [Ed Note: Morris appears on the "Should Be Safe" list. Now, unless the Glazer's either have the quickest trigger finger, which we haven't seen, or are setting him up for failure, there is NO WAY Morris and company shouldn't be on the "No Worries" list. The only speculation I can offer is that the Glazer's picked up a cheap coach and GM to fill as stop gaps until a name they want (hello Mr. Cowher) decides they want to roam the sidelines again.]
USA Today recap of the off-season - Most of this info has been discussed, but there are a few good quotes from Chris Hovan both on the loss of leadership in the locker room and how he will be affected by the switch to Jim Bates' scheme.
That does it for Tuesday Morning's edition. Feel free to use the comments section to let your thoughts be known to everyone in Buc Nation.

In My opinion.....
1st question….. If Elbert Mack does not win out that position I will be majorly surprised.
2nd question…. It is possible because The Falcons done it and the Dolphins too. It will depend greatly on the QB chosen to start ( McCown is a no brainer to me. Leftwich is way to slow and Freeman to unexperienced) and how involved Morris gets (Morris is the Unexperienced head coach BUT Coach Jags is not new to running an Offense and Coach Bates is not new at running a Defense so if Morris lets them do their thing then and only then can the Bucs become a surprise team.)
3rd…. Morris has not done anything as a head coach to impress me yet. As a Matter of fact he has done the opposite. I liked him to begin with but the release of veterans and even worse the whole situation with the first round pick of the draft and moving up two spots has gotten me seriously questioning his decision making. I deeply hope if Bill Cowher, Mike Shanahan or Mike Holmgren Becomes available that the Bucs will drop Morris like a hot potato and hire one of them to provide hope for the Bucs future to become one of the top teams of the NFL. I know, That doesn’t sound like something the Glazier family would do but a fan can only hope.
4th…. ‘Some other guy who does not care’ said it best…….. “Sigh, whatever!”

I think that
1) Mack will win the job, barring injury or some spike in talent we haven’t seen.
2) It is possible, but not probable. Learning two new systems (each side of the ball), with a new QB, a revamped defense, loss of leadership, it will be tough. That coupled with what appears to be a tough schedule doesn’t leave me too hopeful. But it has been done before
3) I’ll cut Morris some slack as the decision to cut the vets didnt come from him. It’s too early to tell how he will do, but what he does have going for him is while he is young and inexperienced, he does have an OC who knows the game and a veteran DC, freeing him up to be more of a manager than Gruden, who had to control the offense.
I really don’t know the Glazer’s plans, but I think anything is possible. This is the team that once gave up 4 draft picks and cash to secure Gruden, let Dungy go after turning the franchise around and kept Gruden either one year too long or panicked and signed him (and Allen) to an extension out of fear. It’s very possible that this is a one and done scenario for Morris. But maybe lightning strikes and we have the next Boy Wonder here

I can see your point....
At this time I can see both sides of the coin and how at this point and time that the Bucs are going into this season basically as underdogs because of all the changes in so many different areas of the organization BUT as a true lover of the game of football and a long time fan of the Buccaneers ( GO BUCCS!) I believe whole heartedly in the saying, “That is why they play the game” and “Any given Sunday!” Until the season starts and the teams destiny becomes revealed then they have a chance and the fans have HOPE! Call me crazy but to me, for this season, the Bucs are undefeated until they lose a game. Nobody truly knows how this season will turn out and everything is all speculation at this time.

I wonder how many people projecting the Bucs to be awful are assuming the last month represents true talent level.
That seems like a dangerous assumption.

It's partly the last 4 games
coupled with all the changes in staff, scheme, leadership, new (young) QB’s, etc. Alot of turnover for one year and that doesn’t sit well with the so-called “experts”.

I meant to add "for the defense" to the end of the header.
I’m not sure how well/poorly the offense will play, but I don’t think the defense is quite as bad as many project it to be.

The offense will do well
The defense has a bunch of these:??? that’s why many don’t project it as well.

You're sure of the offense?
I think the offense poses just as many questions as the defense.
1) We don’t have a leader
2) We don’t know the scheme
3) and with so many new players, we don’t know who are playmakers are going to be
It looks like we might have something, but we should be a long way from confident.
