Buc 'Em 2009 NFL Mock Draft Challenge

Alright Folks!!! Step on up and give me your NFL Mock Draft's .... Let's see who can come close to guessing the Draft, Pick for Pick. I'll start, ya'll follow. Feel free to add analysis if you'd like. If someone has an almost Flawless Draft, I'll see if Buc 'Em can come up with some sort of compensation. Have fun with it . . .

  1. Detroit - QB Matthew Stafford, UGA They are relying on Daunte Culpepper to hold the fort down next season. Sure they could draft a Linebacker, they would still suck for the foreseeable future. Unless they trade down this is the route they should go. Grab a LB or OL with that 20th overall pick.
  2. Detroit - OT Jason Smith, Baylor With the releasing of Orlando Pace, it’s time for the Rams to start the process all over again. They could do a lot worse than going with Smith with this pick.
  3. Kansas City - LB Aaron Curry, Wake Forest For a team that is loaded on offense, they need serious help on defense. I fought the urges to select Michael Crabtree here. It should be interesting to see if they can pass on Crabtree themselves.
  4. Seattle - WR Michael Crabtree, Texas Tech I realize they got T.J. Houshmandzadeh this off-season, but he’s no spring chicken. I could easily see them going defense here, but in an attempt to avoid Crabtree falling to the Raiders, I’ve selected him here.
  5. Cleveland - DE Brian Orapko, Texas
  6. Cincinnati - OT Eugene Monroe, Virginia
  7. Oakland - WR Jeremy Maclin, Missouri
  8. Jacksonville - DT B.J. Raji, Boston College
  9. Green Bay - DE Everette Brown, FSU Can't wait to see the Pro Career this guy has. He has an unbelievable motor and is a great character guy.
  10. San Francisco - OT Michael Oher, Ole Miss
  11. Buffalo - DE Aaron Maybin, Penn State
  12. Denver - CB Malcolm Jenkins, Ohio State
  13. Washington - LB Brian Cushing, USC
  14. New Orleans - LB Clay Matthews, USC
  15. Houstonh - CB Sean Smith, Utah
  16. San Diego - LB Rey Maualuga, USC
  17. New York - RB Knowshon Moreno, UGA
  18. Denver - LB Clint Sintim, Virginia
  19. Tampa Bay - QB Mark Sanchez, USC If they are rumored to like Freeman, and Sanchez falls this far, they had better take the better of the two QB’s.
  20. Detroit - OT Andre Smith, Alabama
  21. Philadelphia - WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, Maryland
  22. Minnesota - WR Hakeem Nicks, UNC
  23. New England - CB Vontae Davis, Illinois
  24. Atlanta - LB James Laurinaitis, Ohio State
  25. Miami - CB Darius Butler, UConn
  26. Baltimore - WR Kenny Britt, Rutgers
  27. Indianapolis - DT Peria Jerry, Ole Miss
  28. Philadelphia - RB Donald Brown, UConn
  29. New York - TE Brandon Pettigrew, Oklahoma State
  30. Tennessee - DT Evander (Ziggy) Hood, Missouri
  31. Arizona - RB Chris (Beanie) Wells, Ohio State
  32. Pittsburgh/a> - OC Alex Mack, California

Just a question

I thought the bears gave their 1st rounder to broncs for cutler. Why do you have them taking percy if they don’t have a 1st rounder.

no quarterback

i’m starting to believe that we have a larger need for other positions besides quarterback . The defensive line needs help getting pressure on the quarterback, and Barber still needs a replacement. I’ve begun to believe in Mccown since even if we do draft a rookie, McCown will still start the season for us, and if McCown comes out gunning then we end up with a highly drafted back up !! like matt leihnart and brady quinn !

Interesting draft.....

I have a lot of different thoughts that I will post when I have time. My mock draft….soon to come.

since it's a draft thread

do you think the following noles get drafted:

Antone Smith
Greg Carr
Tony Carter

? Which round?

Smith – 7th or undrafted
Tony Carter – 6th (just because of how he tests. I question if he will make the team).
Greg Carr – I think realistic expectations are the 7th round or undrafted. I think someone takes a flier on him and goes in the 5th. Just a hunch.
Michael Ray Garvin – Undrafted
Weatherford – 7th and then out of the league. CFL? AFL?

When is this due

and will you adjust your draft if anything big happens?

by dannythegreat on Apr 5, 2009 5:23 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

the deadline is midnight

before the draft… You can change your picks as often as you would like. I just ask that you delete your sprevious comment with your pick so the thread is easier to navigate for me when i’m tallying things up…

no way

Sanchez falls to us, no way Cushings and Mathews are off the board before Maualuga, and Bennie wells falls to pick 31? If anything the Chargers, Broncos and the Saints need a tough running back. Raji getting high like ricky williams you think Jacksonville will take him? They need line help, a QB of the future, they have no WRs…..Also San Fran needs a QB cuz alex smith is nothing what they thought he was going to be. So, no way Sanchez falls to 19…..you my friend are a TRUE bucs fan, only a Bucs fan thinks that Sanchez can fall to us, but we must wake up and realize DT, OLB, or OT is the way to go…..

to be honest

i’m completely stumped this year.. i’ve had a pretty good grasp on things the previous seasons but this year i have no clue where the majority of the teams are going to go, hence the hack job up above… It’s all a crapshoot really. I mean when was the last time we didnt know who the first 5 picks would end up being?

With that said, i expect all of you to ante up your picks.. ya’ll can bash mine all day, but until you put your picks where your mouth is, it’s just yadda ya

ha!!!!

i look forward to the selections

3 Kansas City Chiefs – Aaron Curry, LB, WFU
4 Seattle Seahawks – Jason Smith, OT, Baylor
5 Cleveland Browns – Brian Orakpo, DE/OLB, Texas
6 Cincinnati Bengals – Malcom Jenkins, CB, OSU (I think they trade down. There isn’t a draft worthy pick …at a need…this high for them. However, since I can’t predict that I will say they draft Jenkins.)
7 Oakland Raiders – Michael Crabtree, WR, TTU (They are thanking God that he drops this far).
8 Jacksonville Jaguars – Jeremy Maclin, WR, Mizzou
9 Green Bay Packers – Everette Brown, DE/OLB, They need a pass rusher. Best available.
10 San Francisco 49ers – Aaron Maybin, De, PSU

This was insanely difficult.

I dropped quite a few player pretty far (Harvin, Jerry, Sanchez, Pettigrew).

If you think this is easy I challenge you. A lot of the “obvious” players would have to be drafted strictly because they are BPA and not because of a need. Yet there are some GAPING needs in there that you have to figure will be drafted in later rounds.)

2. St. Louis Rams- OT Eugene Monroe- They let go of Orlando Pace, maybe future HOF, they need somebody to replace him and monroe fits the bill.

4. Seattle Seahawks- OT Jason Smith
5. Cleveland Browns- DE/OLB Brian Okarpo
6. Cincinnati Bengals- OT Andre Smith- This is going to fry my brain, they have so many needs.

8. Jacksonville Jaguars- DE/OLB Everette Brown- They need help too.
9. Green Bay Packers- DE Aaron Maybin
10. San Fransisco 49ers- CB Malcolm Jenkins- This is really needed when your LBs have three interceptions and not your DBs.

17. New York Jets- QB Mark Sanchez- If he falls to them, they are sure to get him.
18. Denver Broncos- RB Chris Wells- They cannot deal with the injuries to their running backs.
19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Evander “Ziggy” Hood- Ok, here i see a trade down sometime, but if not this guy fits bates scheme and could help this line and g adams a lot (Bold Prediction)
20. Detroit Lions- OT Michael Oher.
21. Philadelphia Eagles- WR/RB Percy Harvin- This is the perfect fit for the team, and they might pray to god for this to happen.
22. Minnesota Vikings- WR Darrius Heyward Bey- This would certainly help
23. New England Patriots- LB James Laurinitis
24. Atlanta Falcons- TE Brandon Pettigrew
25. Miami Dolphins- CB Alphonso Smith
26. Baltimore Ravens- WR Jeremy Maclin
27. Indianapolis Colts- DT Peria Jerry
28. Philadelphia Eagles- OT Eben Britton
29. New York Giants- WR Hakeem Nicks- Eli manning and the giants need help both on OL and WR.

32. Pittsburgh Steelers- CB D.J Moore

You find it hard?

It’s crazy that Raji is going so low on all of our drafts. He is easily one of the best 3 or 4 players in the draft. It’s all about need.

You think Filthy will draft Harvin even though they have a very similar receiver in Jackson?

I am also intrigued by the Titans pick. Also, I think on the Broncos 18 pick you meant Moreno (You have wells up there twice)

Sorry

Change the Uh second beanie wells pick (Cardinals) to RB Lesean Mccoy from Pitt to the cardinals.
Thing about philly they need a RB also and Percy is the perfect RB/WR combo you can have.

No clue why. If I click it under someone else’s post, it pops up options for “flag” and what not, but nothing on my own posts.

Your Draft

Is interesting!! never thought of going after Vontae before.

it was definitely a value pick

in that scenario, he was (at least to me) best available. The better option would be to trade down given that board, but barring that, Davis would have to be the pick.

Thanks

The reason i have them picking Up Percy Harvin is because Philly needs a WR and They need a RB to help Westbrook. and with Percy Harvin also able to play RB or do running plays it will allow a Good WR Swipe.

This is of course total BS. :)
1. Detroit Lions- OT Jason Smith. Lions will play chicken with Stafford on getting him to sign cheap, so he’ll say no and Lions go to Option B.
2. St. Louis Rams- TRADE to Minnesota – QB Stafford
3. Kansas City Chiefs- LB Aaron Curry
4. Seattle Seahawks- OT Eugene Monroe
5. Cleveland Browns- QB Mark Sanchez – I just think this franchise is gonna go blammo and do something stupid ;)
6. Cincinnati Bengals- OT Michael Oher. I think that Alabama OT is gonna slip a lot this draft.
7. Oakland Raiders- DT BJ Raji. What pot?
8. Jacksonville Jaguars- WR Michael Crabtree. Tell me which WRs they already have and I’ll point to this guy as an upgrade no matter what.
9. Green Bay Packers- OLB Brian Orakpo
10. San Fransisco 49ers- DE Tyson Jackson.
11. Buffalo Bills- DE Aaron Maybin
12. Denver Broncos- DE Everette Brown
13. Washington Redskins- OLB Brian Cushing
14. New Orleans Saints- CB Malcolm Jenkins
15. Houston Texans- CB Alphonso Smith
16. San Diego Chargers- RB Knowshon Moreno
17. New York Jets- CB Vontae Davis
18. Denver Broncos- CB Jarius Byrd
19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- DT Peria Jerry. I’d prefer Harvin at WR, but if Jerry falls to here (and I may be biased in that regard, a lot of the earlier teams need DT as well) I know the Bucs will jump at this.
20. Detroit Lions- QB Josh Freeman. You get your OT with the top pick and a developmental QB with the other pick. Works slightly better this way, ya?
21. Philadelphia Eagles- RB Chris Wells. I just think the Eagles need to get a decent RB for once.
22. Minn. – TRADE TO Saint Louis- OT Andre Smith
23. New England Patriots- OLB Clint Sintim
24. Atlanta Falcons- LB James Laurinaitis
25. Miami Dolphins- WR Darrius Heyward-Bey. Harvin could go here.
26. Baltimore Ravens- OLB Clay Matthews
27. Indianapolis Colts- WR Percy Harvin
28. Philadelphia Eagles- TE Cornelius Ingram
29. New York Giants- WR Kenny Britt
30. Tennesse Titans- CB DJ Moore
31. Arizona Cardinals- RB LeSean McCoy
32. Pittsburgh Steelers- C Max Unger
