Bucs Sign Undrafted Free Agents on Monday
Some notable players signed free agent deals today, including Quan Cosby, Greg Carr, Taurus Johnson, and Graham Harrell. Unfortunately, none of them signed with the Bucs. The Bucs did sign CB DeAngelo Willingham out of Tennessee, who brings good size to the table for a corner at 5'11, 215 lbs. The Bucs also signed a couple of local guys to tryout contracts - former Tampa Bay Tech standout/Notre Dame LB Maurice Crum and former USF DE Jarriett Buie. The Bucs worked out Crum a few weeks ago and appear genuinely interested in him. If he claims a roster spot, he could add some competition to the open tryout for the outside linebacker spots. Buie is a speedster who is a little small for a full-time DE, but could be effective as a situational pass rusher. He ran a 4.73 40 time at the combine.
DISCLAIMER: Someone chime in if they know more, but I believe a tryout contract is basically an agreement for a team to have the exclusive right to bring that player into training camp to tryout for the team.

i believe...
that tryout contracts are basically just to get people into the rookie camp. If they want to keep them around after that, they have to draw up a real contract. Could be wrong, but that’s the impression I’ve always gotten, since the tryout guys generally are only around for the rookie camp, unless they sign another deal.

exactly right
it’s just that, a contract to try out… which is why another QB will be brought in, to help split the reps with Freeman

They also signed
University of Richmond RB Josh Vaughan. This guy was Tim Hightower’s backup until this year, when he helped UR win the national championship game against Montana. Pretty solid guy. Probably practice squad material?

Anybody hear anything about Dannell Ellerbe from Georgia? Last i had checked he didnt get drafted. He was a beast in the SEC for a couple years and i thought he definitely should have gone in the draft.

I haven't seen
where anyone has signed him…You are right, he was a damn fine LB and could be good in the NFL, only thing is he plays MLB, I don’t see the bucs picking him up, but I would like it if they did, more depth couldnt hurt there and could probably get him cheap…..

He actually plays all 3 LB spots and has started multiple games at all 3 during his college career. He should get a shot somewhere, homeboy can play for sure.
