Buc 'Em NFL Draft Live Blog Party Continued.... Day Two

With six picks in today’s Day Two of the NFL Draft you might want to stick around despite yesterday’s depressing draft results (to some anyway). The list of talent still available should have you excited for today’s events that kick off at 10 am EST time…

  • Running backs: Ben Williams South Florida, Jeremiah Johnson Oregon, Shonn Greene Iowa, Javon Ringer Michigan State, Rashad Jennings Liberty
  • Wide Receivers: Louis Murphy Florida, Taurus Johnson South Florida, Ramses Barden Cal Poly, Mike Wallace Ole Miss, Quan Cosby Texas, Derrick Williams Penn State, Juaquin Iglesias Oklahoma, Greg Carr FSU, Brian Hartline Ohio State
  • Offensive linemen: OG Ryan Schmidt South Florida, OG Duke Robinson Oklahoma, OC Jonathan Luigs Arkansas, OG Jim Tartt
  • Defensive linemen: DE Michael Johnson Georgia Tech, DT Chris Baker Hampton, DT Terrance Knighton Temple, DE Kyle Moore USC, DE Jarron Gilbert San Jose St., DT Roy Miller Texas
  • Linebackers: OLB Jason Williams Western Illinois, OLB Maurice Crum Jr. Notre Dame, OLB Ashlee Palmer Ole Miss, Gerald McRath Southern Miss, Dannel Ellerbe Georgia, MLB Derek Nicholson FSU
  • Cornerback: Joe Burnett Central Florida, D.J. Moore Vanderbilt, Victor ‘Macho’ Harris Virginia Tech, Mike Mickens Cincinnati, Asher Allen Georgia, Tony Carter FSU
  • Safety: SS Marshall McDuffie Florida Atlantic, Michael Hamlin Clemson, Chip Vaughn Wake Forest
  • I know we don’t need a RB, but boy would Shonn Greene be a great asset to have. I also know Jarron Gilbert doesn’t play the position like Jim Bates wants, but he would be a great motor to add to the line. Obviously I would be pretty ecstatic with a Quan Cosby or Greg Carr selection. The biggest name left on the board is Michael Johnson, many thought he was a first day pick and he has slid like a landslide into the third round. I doubt he falls the necessary 16 picks to fall to the Bucs. Macho Harris would be a nice pick up at Cornerback to help push Elbert Mack. There’s a lot of talent left in the second round it’s just a matter of whether they hang around for the Bucs picks…

Consider this the open thread for Today’s Day 2 of the NFL Draft! Comment away…

    DE from Richmond

Supposedly a great pass rusher. Granted, he played in the FCS, but he had 11.5 sacks last year, and 20 TFL. I don’t think the Bucs D-line as a whole got into the backfield that often last year.

    i was pretty shocked

Gaines and Greg didnt produce more last season, especially with the incentives in Greg’s contracts based on sack number. I would be pretty disgusted if they opted to bring back Kevin Carter as has been said

I wouldn't mind seeing Carter back...

IF they address the DE spot in the draft, but still feel like bringing him back on the roster. I really don’t want to see them skip out on DE today and just re-sign him. He’s excellent in certain situations, and he’s a great presence in the locker room.

Yes, don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Carter.

(I’d still like to see him back next year as long as he’s not the only answer at DE)

Thanks to pewterreport for this dish on Roy Miller....

    http://pewterreport.com/articles/view/5421

"I’m excited. Definitely very excited to be a part of that organization," Miller said. "They’ve had some great players come through there – some great defensive players. Going into this whole thing, I interviewed with them at the Shrine Bowl and I didn’t come in for a visit, so I didn’t really have any idea that they would pick me."

That's a decent stat line to start off the article

138 tackles and 10 sacks in 19 starts… That’s not bad at all for a run-stuffing DT. I liked the pick when it happened, and I’m liking it even more now.

“I’m excited. Definitely very excited to be a part of that organization. They’ve had some great players come through there – some great defensive players. Going into this whole thing, I interviewed with them at the Shrine Bowl and I didn’t come in for a visit, so I didn’t really have any idea that they would pick me. You read [the scouting reports] and definitely it pisses you off. Everybody has an opinion. I take a lot of pride. I’m honored to be a Buc, but I feel there were a lot of guys that went ahead of me that shouldn’t have. Those kinds of things I feed off when I play. It is what is. To me, I feel like I’m the best defensive tackle in the draft. Watching everybody come off the board, [is motivation], I knew a couple of guys were going to go based on the hype that they got, but yeah I watched. Like I said before those kinds of things push me. I’ll feed off of them”

Have any of you guys followed nfl network?

Apparantly Jon Gruden is pretty good. Finally he has found something he can’t screw up. For what it’s worth, he has given the Bucs rave reviews and even in SP Times he refers to the team like he never left saying, we need to draft this guy, we need to draft that guy. Key word in that sentence is we….uhh sorry Jon, there is no more we.

Also, when Freeman was drafted Gruden was quoted as saying “I wish I was in that locker room to congratulate those guys.” Damn I miss Chucky

    Kyle Moore Bio

    Overview
Moore was voted the team’s most inspirational player last season.

Hampered by preseason knee problems and used mostly to contain the run, he still managed to break free from blockers to registered 9.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage, including a career-high five quarterback sacks as a senior.

At Houston County High School, Moore earned USA Today, EA Sports, Super Prep, Parade and Pre Star All-American honors as a senior. He was a member of the Super Prep Elite 50, Prep Star Top 100 Dream Team, Student Sports Top 100, Rivals 100, Super Prep All-Dixie, Prep Star All-Southeast and Atlanta Journal-Constitution Super Southern 100 squads.

Moore was also named the Georgia Class 5A Defensive Player of the Year. In his final season, he recorded 93 tackles, 22 sacks, 18 deflections, eight forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one blocked punt (for a touchdown) in 2004. As a junior in 2003, he made All-Middle Georgia, All-Region and All-County while getting 110 tackles, 23 tackles for loss and 15 sacks.

Moore was determined to play for an elite program and was used to the travel. Part of a military family, he was born in Germany and lived in Europe and Texas before moving to Georgia.

Moore served as a reserve defensive end in his first year at Southern California, playing behind All-American strong-side end Lawrence Jackson in 2005. He suffered a right knee sprain in his collegiate debut vs. Hawaii, missing the next two games. He saw brief action in 11 games that campaign and while he recovered a pair of fumbles, he managed just six tackles (five solo).

Moore shifted to right defensive end in 2006, but lost a fierce preseason battle with Brian Cushing for the starting position. He appeared in 13 games, collecting only five tackles (four solo) with a pass deflection.

With Lawrence Jackson having an All-American season on the strong side, Moore helped give the Trojans matching bookends, starting 11 games at weak-side end in 2007. He played the bulk of the running downs and was spelled by Everson Griffen on obvious pass plays, but still produced 35 tackles (15 solo) that included a pair of sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. His long wing span proved to be a major problem for the opposition, as he not only batted down five passes at the line of scrimmage but pulled down two interceptions.

As a senior, Moore garnered All-Pac-10 Conference honorable mention. He started every game at Jackson’s old position (strong-side), collecting 30 tackles (16 solo). He made five sacks with 9.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage while deflecting two passes and also recovered a fumble as a 13-game starter.

    I'm with Craig T

Sign LB LeRoy Hill – but does he fit in DC Bates scheme?

by TheUltimateBucFan on Apr 26, 2009 1:21 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

    I wouldn't mind it

But it’s not a need. and if the price is right.

by Maxumas on Apr 26, 2009 1:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

    OLB

is a need. I think putting Jermaine Phillips at safety makes this team worse in the secondary, so if they can find some suitable OLBs in either free agency, draft, or in their current roster to put Phillips back at safety, this team becomes better overall. I think Leroy Hill is a guy that can come in and be an impact player.

    Cannons... fire them.

    LOL

we really didn’t have to trade up. Dallas got Brandon williams which was pretty much the same as kyle moore. but From the thing Theultimatebucsfan posted. i think i like moore more (Lmao moore more)

by Maxumas on Apr 26, 2009 1:22 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

    I think they get ansy

they didn’t need to move up to get freeman either

by Rays Genius on Apr 26, 2009 1:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i think that's why they traded up

If Dallas was after a DE, Moore was the better value vs. Williams, and you’ve gotta believe they would have taken him if not for the trade.

He was productive… but damn. Being that little, and without good speed, he’s probably gonna get eaten alive in the NFL.
