New York Giants Looking to Trade Up

I'll keep this off the front page so we can keep the draft party post at the top for the day.

I was just watching SportsCenter and the New York Giants are looking to trade up because they want Darrius Heyward-Bey. The Giants currently hold the 29th pick. Could we see the Bucs make a move? Many of you think the Bucs should trade down to get some more picks. But all the way to 29? Thoughts?

that would be pretty tough

19 to 29, but if you want to accumulate picks thats the way to go about it… They could probably go after Michael Johnson there at 29 and grab Ron Brace in the 2nd round… that would be a nice coup on day one

That's what I was thinking.

I really don’t want to drop that many spots, but that’s the best way for us to be able to get another decent pick in return. The 19th pick is worth 875 points and the 29th is worth 640. That’s a difference of 235 points. The Giants have two 2nd rounders so they may be a little more willing to part with one than the points chart says. There’s no way we’re getting the 45th pick from them unless we give them more in return. But the 60th pick is worth 300 points, so we may be able to do something with that.

Another option, that would come close in terms of point values is up giving them the 19th and 81st (1,060 points) in return for the 29th and 45th (1,090 points).

as much as i would love to grab that 2nd rounder

i would hate to surrender our third rounder as well. As of right now our 1st and 3rd are gold as far as i am concerned…

it appears we have options though which is nice… I know there was talk of the Giants trading with the Jets to move up, but if Sanchez is gone i’m sure the Jets dont want to lose out on Freeman, even then they are interested in Heyward-Bey themselves, soooo

It's a possibility...

…but unfortunately those late picks are worth very little.

they'd never go for that

maybe our 1st, 4th, and 6th rounder, even then though… they do have two 2nd rounders so it could interest them… I just hope we dont trade up to draft a red shirt like Dre Moore from last off-season…

That’s the most aggravating thing to me about drafting Josh Freeman, we know he wont start until the following year, so why waste the pick if he isnt a lock to succeed?

they would probably...

have to take brace at 29 if they wanted to get him. There’s quite a few teams transitioning to the 3-4, and there’s only one BJ Raji. He’d probably go to the first team with a need at NT that didn’t get Raji (KC? GB? If he falls that far, Denver?). There’s no chance he makes it all the way down to #60

ha

there’s talk of him going in the Top 10 to none other than the Oakland Raiders… how much better would the NFL be if the Raiders and Redskins were contracted and Al Davis/Dan Snyder were barred from the NFL?

Absolutely make the deal! Stockpile as many picks as you can

Anything the Bucs can do to add picks to this year’s draft – I am all for! I keep reading about the Bucs taking Freeman at 19, and that just makes no sense to me at all. There are so many other needs to fill between DT/DE/LB, etc. – and the draft is pretty deep at WR too, you could get a nice WR in rounds 2 or 3.
Come on Tampa – trade, trade, trade that #19!!!

Hill earned the starting job for the 2009 season by beating out Alex Smith, who missed last season after re-injuring his surgically repaired throwing shoulder. Head coach Mike Singletary largely chose Hill based on his play down the stretch last year: he went 5-3 over the final eight games and he also owns a 5-0 record at home in Candlestick Park.
