Brett Favre had committed to Tampa Bay last off-season before abruptly being traded to the Jets
Posted on behalf of JScott.
Speaking of Brett Favre, the retired Quarterback spoke to the media on Saturday while attending an event at Disney World. He spoke of how he had basically committed to the Bucs last off-season, how the Packers traded him to the Jets without his consent, and how he didn’t want to create a fire storm by rejecting the trade:
"I was very close to being traded to the Bucs. I had basically committed to Tampa. Aside from the Packers, it was a perfect fit, based on the offense. I had already discussed the offensive terminology with then Head Coach Jon Gruden. I was laying down with my 9-year-old, thinking about taking her to her first day of school the next morning when I saw that I was traded on ESPN. I had last say, more or less, but the trigger had been pulled. When the trade was made and it was public news without my knowledge, how could I change my mind? When that was done for me, without my consent, I was like ‘I’m not going to make things any worse’ There had been enough dirt kicked around up to that point." Paraphrased Quotes provided by Rich Cimini of the NYDailyNews
I realize there’s no point in drudging up old news from over a year ago, but a lack of communication stopped the Bucs from acquiring Brett Favre last season. It’s kind of funny in that a lack of communication from Gruden to his players played a hand in him being fired. Had Favre communicated his intentions to play for Tampa to the Packers rather than lay on the floor watching ESPN he could be a Buccaneer right now! What could have been… Oh by the way, Favre said he knows he’ll get that itch to play again…

Contradicts soem silliness from the fans
…who acted like Farve rejected a trade to Tampa. I can’t reference the blogs where I saw this but there WERE posts from people who just got pissed off at Farve over the whole mess. Not the entire situation.
Farve could have been a Buc… But would that have solved the ills of the franchise that led to end of Gruden/Allen’s reign? Nope. Though winning cures all ills, but ths still would have been acquiring an elder-statesman QB for a team that needed a fresh start.

I really don't care.
It’s a new day in Tampa. Favre needs to ride off into the sunset and STFU.

Yup...It would have been just like garcia Short-term fix
We just need to find our Franchise QB a 23 year old gun slinger with a Cannon for a arm(like McNabb),Big Body and Tall(Like Roethlisberger)so he can take hits,Qb that can make all the throws(like Cutler),With a Littler speed like(Vince Young),Sounds like somebody available this Year???Josh Freeman

There is a good reason why Freeman will be available at #19
Interceptions.

Every single one of those other guys you named...
…had very good college careers. Freeman’s was relatively average.

Freeman's inaccuracy
scares the bejebus out of me.. i’d rather give JJ a shot, he’s ridiculously accurate and half a step faster

Josh Johnson.......
showed alot during the preseason…..I would have loved to see him play all of last year…I thought when we were 9-3 last year we were overachieving anyway…..so the demise last year didn’t surprise me…….Gruden just has hardons for old QBs…..plus I think Garcia was his type…..the only reason Garcia bashed him after the firing was he thought he could stay in Tampa……anyway….sure I would like to see Josh get a better chance and anyway…..why is Griese still on the team…..i would have thought they would have cut him to…..age and all

apparently
Griese fits their ‘system’ i dunno. They want to add another QB, so Griese may not make it to training camp… i think he will though as he is the only QB with experience in the group
