Washington Redskins Release DE Jason Taylor, Bucs interested?
As expected the Washington Redskins have released DE Jason Taylor. Expect the Buccaneers to at least kick the tires on Taylor. They were on the verge of trading a draft pick for him during last off-seasons NFL Draft. This year they have his former Defensive Coach in Jim Bates, the Bucs new Defensive Coordinator.
You might think Taylor's age (34) would preclude the Bucs from pursuing him, but his familiarity with Bates defense could go a long way in helping the rest of the defense get over the learning curve. Taylor struggled last season with injuries by only appearing in 13 games and starting 8 of those games. He still registered 29 tackles (21 solo), 3.5 sacks, and 9 pass deflections. At this point who knows if he can stay healthy for a full season, but at the very least he could push Greg Stylez White and give he and Gaines a breather from time to time. It's doubtful he'd accept the money that comes with that type of role.

Don't look now, but there's another former Bates product on the market as well in LB Zach Thomas... Just sayin'

Jim Bates and Jason Taylor Reunion
How about a nice reunion between these two that could really help the D-line?

Why not.....
he is old as dirt….but could give us one year….until we get a DE next year

Eh
It’s just a little something to talk and get mildly excited about now that everything has died down; also Pat Yasinskas of ESPN says the Bucs best FA match would be Derrick Ward

ESPN....really
I put no stock in anything they have to say………we have tons of holes…no depth…..we need to fill and fill quickly….then we can figure out what to do with the draft……

I completely agree
ESPN is not too reliable (plus it was only an opinion), I only mentioned this one for optimism as well

Whoops
Let me just throw out an apology to Bull Gator for not doing as he suggested and providing a link to the article rather that be lazy and copy and paste

i'm in the process of cleaning it up
and i’ll pull it to the front page… despite his age, this is news worthy considering Bates has targeted several of his past draftees since FA started…

But we cut Derrick Brooks and Warrick Dunn because he is old?
How does JT fit into the plan better than 55 did?

if you'll remember
Raheem said they didnt cut DB and WD based on age, they didnt fit the direction of the team. Don’t misconstrue my theory as agreeing to it. I just think Bates will get Dominik to consider J Taylor because he excelled under Bates and is familiar with his system and could help the guys under contract become more familiar with it…

.
I think alot of people knew this was going to happen with the Haynesworth signing. This is a real possibility because of the ties that Bates and Taylor have. I would be pretty excited to see him join the Bucs and i think this would help us tremendously.

Desperate times for desperate measures
do you think we could ask them to come back?

lol, nope
i personally would like to see the Bucs start Greg Stylez White. He didnt start a single game last season yet he still had 5 sacks. With that said J Taylor only played in 8 games last season and had 3.5 sacks

Jason Taylor
would be a good signing because he is familiar with Bates and he is a veteran, but still would be new to the team. Taylor seems like the kind of guy who could come in, mentor gaines adams and the D-line, get a feel for the team and take on a vet leadership role, or just be a teacher and rotation player — whatever Raheem needs.
I think the Bucs should go after him.

On a similar note...
The Dolphins released Vonnie Holliday; not too excited about this one

Just goes to show
how dumb the Redskins are for having to obtain Haynesworth. Besides Portis, is there any continuity from year to year in their personnel?

we'll see just
how dumb they are this season when we face them… can’t wait : (

I agree with CrazyCarl139 I just said sumthing like dat on anotha post
Jason Taylor maybe be 34 but he can still play he knows the tricks afta u been doing sumthing so long you become accustom and things get easier and he can help adams get to that point there similar in styles and jason had 3.5 sacks last year we had sum guyz that didnt even have that and started the whole d@mn season…Sign Taylor,Tank,Ward, and Draft Heyward Bey or Josh Freeman.and re-sign Buchanon and Phillips
