Cannon Shots: Nate Washington, Antonio Bryant, Jonathan Vilma, J.P. Losman and Haynesworth

Free Agency is OFFICIALLY upon us!!
Consider this your Free Agency update thread. I'll be updating this post while I scour the internet. If you hear anything not posted below put it in the comments section. Go Bucs!
He doesnt have a flashy name, but in a offense that featured Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes he was fairly productive, plus he's young. I like this potential move. The downside is his camp is looking for $7-$8 million guaranteed...
Finally some good news! I don't know that he is worth $9 million, but considering the rest of the WR's on the roster, we need Bryant's services desperately!!
Simply put it paid to be mediocre. Sims started two games last season and finished with 1.5 sacks. Bates must LOVE his size (6'4 315lbs) and his potential to clog the middle, because dang....
He would fill Derrick Brooks void at Weakside Linebacker. Boley will be 27 when the season starts and is a season removed from recording over 100 tackles. He only started 12 games last season. He and Brooks both had 73 tackles last season.
Bates drafted Cole back in '06, he's never become a consistent starter since. We all know DeShaun Foster and his propensity to get injured. Chauncey Davis is pretty undersized, not sure why the Bucs would be interested in him. Looking at Losman's stats he appears to be pretty inaccurate: 33 TDs to 34 INTs over his five year career. At this point I'd rather they draft Freeman if they have to get an inaccurate QB...
Vilma is a Middle Linebacker so I don't know how much validity this rumor has. There's no way they cut Derrick Brooks, to sign Vilma and move Ruud out of the position he's excelled at. With that said Vilma is a beast. He had injury issues a year ago with the Jets but rebounded this past season. His signing would certainly hush the raucous that ensued when Derrick Brooks was shown the door.
With the Bucs releasing DEPTH yesterday, it was apparent they would potentially pass on handing Albert Haynesworth $14-$16 million a season with over $30 million guaranteed for what appears to be a rebuilding franchise. As always with the NFL things can change at the last minute. At this point I'm not sure he's worth the contract considering all of the holes we have to fill.
You have to figure should the Titans lose out on bringing Albert Haynesworth back that Haye could be a real option for them.

A little post I found on NFL.com
Keep an eye on the other three NFC South teams as a possible landing spot for wide receiver Ike Hilliard, who was released Wednesday by the Buccaneers. Atlanta and Carolina each may well be in the market for a reliable No. 3 or 4 receiver. Hilliard is far from spectacular, but he’s as dependable as they come. Carolina coach John Fox was defensive coordinator with the Giants when Hilliard was with them, so there’s some familiarity there. Speaking of familiarity, New Orleans coach Sean Payton was offensive coordinator with the Giants and has worked even more closely with Hilliard. The Saints have good group of young receivers with Marques Colston and Lance Moore as the starters, but it wouldn’t hurt to have someone like Hilliard in case Robert Meachem doesn’t come on like the Saints are hoping. Don’t look for Hilliard to be signed immediately. He’s an older receiver and teams have bigger fish to fry at the start of free agency, but I’m hearing the Saints, Panthers and Falcons will at least be keeping Hilliard in mind.
I am really questioning Bucs management about their “direction”. It appears most of the possible free agents aren’t much better than the players we released. I know Hilliard is more like a #3, more like #4 WR, but surely we could have kept the crew that was let go yesterday. Brooks (please retire), Dunn, June, Hilliard and Galloway if healthy, will all be on someone’s roster next year. I guess I’m just bitter that’s all. I pray that DB says he is going to retire tomorrow. I can’t bear to see him in another uniform.

yeah that would suck for sure
to see DBrooks in another jersey, especially if that new jersey was issued by a NFC South opponent

As much as I want him, no man is worth the amount of moey he is asking for.
Granted, only 30-35 million would be guaranteed. However, I find it hard to believe Haynesworth will be able to play up to the level his contract will demand. The problem is, there isn’t much out there as far as DT in Free Agency. This leaves the draft. I think they would have to move up to solidify the top 1 or 2 DT available in the draft/
by TheUltimateBucFan on Feb 26, 2009 11:01 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
even then
Bates defense is predicated on the DT’s stuffing the run and filling gaps, something Haye and Hovan were capable of doing until that four game stretch to end the season. We don’t necessarily need a guy to wreak havoc on the QB as well as the run game like Haynesworth provides… i dont see the Bucs giving him big bucks like that

Bucs lead NFL in salary-cap space
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who follows the Bucs, but Tampa Bay’s $61-million in salary-cap space — according to NFL.com — is the most in the NFL.
Kansas City is the closest team to the Bucs with $57-million to spare, followed by Philadelphia with $48-million.
Huh. I didn’t know the Chiefs or the Eagles had so much cap room. I thought we were heads above everyone else as far as the cap goes. And we are better off than most teams, but these 2 could get into bidding wars against us if they wanted to

Adam Schefter has your back, well partially:
MOST
Tampa Bay — $61 million
Kansas City — $57 million
Philadelphia — $48 million
Denver — $37 million
Green Bay — $34 million
LEAST
Carolina — $1.9 million
New England — $3.2 million
Indianapolis — $6.6 million
Pittsburgh — $7.4 million
Washington — $8.1 million
Washington will have to work ‘Sword in the Stone’ type magic to sign Haynesworth…

Hall returns to Skins with $54M dealComment Email Print Share Associated Press
The Redskins reached an agreement Friday morning to keep cornerback DeAngelo Hall, and made him one of the highest paid cornerbacks in football an NFL source said.
NFC East blog
ESPN.com’s Matt Mosley writes about all things NFC East in his division blog.
• Blog network: NFL Nation
Hall accepted a six-year $54 million deal that included $22.5 million in guarantees. The payout of the deal includes $30 million over the first three years.
His agents — Alvin Keels and Joel Segal — were ready to explore the free agent market, but the Redskins stepped up and made an offer valued at $9 million per year. The Skins had been at $8.5 million earlier in negotiations, but apparent interest from other team forced Washington to up their offer.
