I myself...

…went with Phillip Buchanon and here’s why…

Buchanon never fully lived up to the hype he had coming out of Miami, but he’s developed into a solid option. The Bucs could probably find someone in free agency or maybe even the draft to push him, but he’s no slouch. I truly believe Talib is going to be a star for many years to come and we all know that Barber has lost a step (even if we do love the guy). So for competition’s sake, I think Buchanon needs to be brought back. If the Bucs can find a starter somewhere else, then Buchanon is a solid nickel guy. If not, I think we could do a lot worse than having him get a good number of plays every game.

Buchanon is important....

but not as important for many of the reasons you mentioned. You need people to push him, which is saying he isn’t developed into a good cornerback. Jermaine on the other hand has proved to be a very good Safety and doesn’t need anyone to push him. Also, there are MANY more options at cornerback, be it in free agency or in the draft, than there is cornerback.

Phillps is a staple of this defense…..Buchannon is not.

What about Sabby?

If Buchanon was at the top of my list, then I believe Phillips is 1B. Here’s what I see right now (and for just a second ignore the draft or free agency…I know we shouldn’t do that, but we can’t bank of someone better coming in), I’d rather go into next year with Buchanon, Talib, Jackson, and Sabby then with Barber, Talib, Jackson, and Phillips. If that makes any sense. I think it’s critical we bring back both of those guys, but I’m more confident in the option behind Phillips than I am in the other options without Buchanon. Even if we pick up a starting caliber CB through free agency, we still need a nickel back and I’m nervous about Barber even being able to do that. Barber was made for Kiffin’s defense. That’s gone, so none of us really know how he can adjust.

You make a great point about Phillips not needing anyone, I just think Sabby is more capable at filling in then someone else at CB. And I’m not even that big of a Sabby fan as most people are.

I would just like to point out...

…that nearly 2.5 hours into the voting, and Alvin Harper has 1 more vote than Michael Clayton!

I think alot of people are in that category but wouldnt mind seeing him return. Its the ‘What If’ factor coming into play. Definitely not the most important one to re-sign but is worth an incentive laced contract.

the problem

with Clayton is that he’ll never come back for an incentive laden deal. he wants millions. which is why the Bucs should say thanks, but no thanks.. i think he’ll definitely test free agency

Phillips

He’s the best safety in the Divison. I agree with most of the views on Buchanon he is solid, but not that the FA market has lots of CB value, I can’t see the bucs upgrading via the market without over spending. The draft is suspect, Talib is good could be great but hasn’t proven anything yet, so why add more xfactor? I think they will sign both, but Phillips is job 1, because he is the best player and least replacable. I actually like Clayton, is that wrong? I enjoy a wideout willing to hit and block to earn his job as a pass catcher back. Really he should be basement cheap. All these guys, other than Harper;) will be good value for money and allow the team use the market and draft to get the explosive DT and wideout they need.

Definetely

Phillips. If you guys don’t resign him, we are looking for a run at him. He is pretty cheap for his skill set and would make a run at him. Buchanon was a Gruden pick when he was in Oakland. I don’t think he is as great as Phillips. He was brought in because of Gruden who is gone now so he might part.

I picked Buchanon and Talib has Proven himself

I picked Buchanon because every team we played guess who covered the lil quick speedy guys such as(steve smith, patrick crayton, lance moore)Buchanon. And he is basically the fastess guy we had on defense (4.3)and sabby at (4.4)and Phillips is very injury prone and I’ve seen him get bust in the open field plenty of times.I feel he’s essential to re-sign but not more then Buchanon.Barber cant run with the quick, and fat guys, and Talib is to big to keep up with hym we need Buchanon. And Talib is going to be great and he has proven himself he was tide for the league leader in interception(4) with Rogers-Cromartie and Cromartie started every game and talib never started.so he’s good he’s just not a Cover #1 reciever type corner yet..key word yet…
