Pro Football Weekly's Hub Arkush; Glazers probably will keep Raheem
One of the first list of Coaches on the hot seat comes from Hub Arkush of Pro Football Weekly.
In this weeks issue, Arkush writes....
"Morris has clearly demonstrated he’s in over his head, but I’m hearing the Glazer family is stubbornly determined to try to prove its faith in the young man was justified."
So what do you think? Does Raheem come back for next year?

I'll start off...
I agree, he will be back.
1) I saw the look on the Glazers face in the locker room waiting for Raheem to come inside after the win vs Green Bay. It was a look of extreme satisfaction over the win, almost an " I knew youd get it".
2) Talking to Edward Glazer the Saturday night before the Packers game, he made some comments that could only be taken as more than just spinning his support for Raheem. They really like the guy, and know that the team does not have the talent. He will get one more season, you can bet your house on it.
Also, on the Doug Williams front, were hearing a lot of rumours about Williams getting fired at the end of the year. The word is, Doug Williams took Dominik’s old job and agents just arnt happy with the way he is doing it.
Expect Doug Williams to NOT get fired, but put back in charge of scouting.

I just don't see any reason they won't bring him back.
The talent is not their, the coaching staff assembled was a giant failure (Management decision as well). It would just be a scapegoat fire, one that the Glazers are probably not interested in paying for.

I think Morris comes back
but there is a shake up in the front office. The structure cant stay as is. Like Niko alludes to, guys will be shuffled around, but not fired.
Only way Morris lost his job was 0-16 and not being competitive. We got a win (yeay?) and have had a few games where weve been in them.

good point, this team has been in every game except the New Orleans game every since the Green Bay win.
And when you look at it now, that is a quality win over a playoff team, as Green Bay is doing well.

I think he'll be back, but I don't think he'll make it through the year next year.
Unless he gets off to a much better start. They’re gonna look like they have faith in this guy, but let’s not forget these are the guys who tried to hire Parcells before they fired Dungy, they are snakes.

This may not be saying much
but Rah saved his job by bringing back the T2 IMO. Dominik should be fired just for re-signing Clayton alone, but if he can’t find a way to get Weis and rebuild the D-Line, he would practically be asking to be replaced.
Also, who would the top candidates be for DC?

RaHeeeeeeem
I mean honestly, to say that Raheem is the root of the problems is the mistake.
John Gruden ( a favorite of mine, ESPECIALLY on MNF) could not develop this team any further. The people he brought in weren’t getting it done. He needs a really good QB (like every good team in the league) but he didn’t have the luck or ability to get the right one to fit his system. So, he lost and was fired for it.
In the hope of not having to overspend and coming up with a talented undiscovered the Glazers went with Morris. Well guess what, they found a guy with potential. Even though hes now competing for the number one draft pick he has the team competing. They screwed up by trying to have him mirror Mike Tomlin, Morris doesn’t need a D coordinator with another system, he needs to do what he does. Implement his system and be aggressive. He didn’t need a college o coordinator trying to go pro, he needed a guy he knew and trusted.
Now, after a crazy offseason and almost a full season he has both. AND, hes showing it. He might have lost the last few games after the win in GB but he almost won them. His QB is young and is going to make rookie mistakes, but he looked amazing.
Raheem has the team thinking near Future, and not barely another year left in the tank. The kids on D are playing well. When the offense can sustain drives under Freemans leadership the D will be in business. He has moved the ball more consistently as any QB since before Johnson. All we need is a good draft this year and we can compete with anyone in this division.
I honestly wasn’t a believer in college pick happy freeman, but he commands the offense. AS long as the short plays are established, this team will be around for awhile. The glazers might be thrifty, but I will take that any day over the Davis and the Jones where they interfere in starting running backs and QBs!

another good post rx7ucia..
Like you I was skeptical of the Freeman pick, I had hope, but everything I heard was he had too many faults. Now we see what Raheem saw in him. The ability to take over, leadership, those can sometimes be more important than size and arm strength in a quarterback….and he has those too.

Him back is a good idea, keep everyone, the coaching staff, the players, and the only thing we can do is just build on what we have…

I've been calling for his head all year...
I do think he’ll be back however if for any reason, monetary ones. The Bucs will already be paying him and Gruden next year, why pay a 3rd head coach? Also I want to get a great offensive coordinator (something we haven’t had since Les Steckel) but I remember the reason Dungy was let go was that management kept asking him to fire offensive coordinators, and he finally said no, and he was let go. I don’t want to see that carousel again, as I remember how difficult it was for Dilfer and King…

actually Shula was the only one he was told to get rid of...
He did not get along with the philosophy of Les Steckle, even though Steckles offense produced the highest point totaled season ever in Bucs history. Replacing Steckle with Clyde Christenson is probably the killer straw Dungy committed.

Actually the problem wasnt shula, it was trent dilfer.
The Shula offense in the probowl destroyed the AFC.
DIlfer just regressed in 98 and 99.
Steckle and Clyde both differed in the Dunn/Alstott equation. Thats why Dunn did better under one, while Alstott did better under the other.

After todays game, Morris shouldn't be here next week.
For the first time since Freeman got his first start, he looked lost, scared, confused, and like JJ. He’s not getting the teaching he needs, he’s not gonna progress with Morris/Olsen here. They don’t even need to interview Morris anymore, we all know what he’s gonna say. He needs to go, and the Glazers nee to bring in a coach who knows what it takes to teach and motivate his team, and make good decisions in personnel and game time.

I agree.....
I think with him as HC next season it want be much different next year than this one. Their is just so much Lack of coaching experience and in week 14 there doesn’t seem to very much improvement if any. Keep him because of the money situation or whatever but we likely won’t be competative next year either.

Uhh, How
With all due respect, Josh Freeman is a 21 y/o rookie who is just learning the playbook. You expect days like this and last week if you don’t know- it takes time to build confidence within yourself. To say the team isn’t competitive under morris is a joke, If anyone to blame its the specific coordinator *cough Jim Bates *cough Greg Olsen *cough. Outside of the early touchdowns given up, our defense has been impressive to say the least. If you want to revamp the whole system for the second straight year, Go ahead- Just know- Freeman isn’t going to grow under two (three) new offensive coordinator’s within one year and you are going to experience the same losing streaks-you have been seeing.
Why do you kill threads????
by Some other guy who does not care on Dec 13, 2009 9:13 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Freeman has always been confident, but not this week.
He’s also been very impressive and he put the belief in me that he can and will be the guy here. I do expect him to have bad days, but today it just seemed like he went the wrong way. That is coaching, that’s what coaches are supposed to do, fix what’s broken and it’s very obvious that wasn’t done over the last week. I read a quote from Rich Gannon, I guess he called the game this week. He said
“We watched their practice on Friday, and I wasn’t at all impressed,” Gannon said. He added that Tampa Bay “wasn’t sharp, wasn’t crisp, and they weren’t going full speed,” among another critical remarks."(got that from tampabay.com by the way).
This coaching staff is so lost and it shows, it not only is painful to watch, it’s gonna be painful for the Glazers when they see how many renewals are not renewed (I’m a die hard, I’ll never give mine up). Let’s face it, I know Morris is a nice guy, easy to get a long with, and in way over his head. He should have used his head and stayed at DC which I think he would do a fine job at, he had a great teach in Monte. But he’s no where near ready to be a head coach, nor Olsen an OC.
I’m pretty confident that the Glazer kids will man-up and admit they made a mistake in the hiring of Morris and let him go. There’s no guarantee that Morris is safe, and 1-15 coaches usually don’t make it to the players exit interviews. The right thing to do is bring in a new HC that has experience and the connections for the right staff to get this team back on track and contending for the championship every year. We will get back to that, but not with Morris.

I think he stays
The Bucs need continuity to improve, especially with a young team and a rookie QB. The team has improved, and Morris has the one win. Freeman will regress at times, but seems to be able to bounce back. Even Payton lost the majority of his rookie year games. This game was hard to watch at times, and than became almost comical at other times. I am now in 100% agreement with the bad play calling side, but I think Olsen stays as well.
by McBuc on Dec 14, 2009 2:23 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
They will give Olsen the benefit of the doubt and let him install his offense during the off season.
by McBuc on Dec 14, 2009 2:25 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
This is THE question going into the offseason.
I did think that the Glazers would give Raheem another shot, but now I would put the chances of this occurring closer to 50/50. The main issue is Olson. Does Raheem really think he is a good OC? Does he give him an endorsement?
So far the only thing that Raheem has proven good at is blaming himself for the teams multiple problems at press releases and giving the fans lip service about what is being done to rectify them.
We looked horrible yesterday against a Jets team with a good defense and a below average backup QB. Three weeks in a row versus back up quarterbacks should equate into at least one win. Obviously Freeman is struggling, much like we expected him to, but who cares about giving him consistent direction at OC if it is a bad one? This will just make him consistently bad.

I agree, progress isn't being made, there are more empty seats every week, and it will get worse.
It is a business first and it’s pretty obvious the fans want the coaching staff gone, except the SP coach. I don’t see how they keep Morris, and if they do, they’re blind.

Everyone needs to stop judging NFL players and coaches
on a game to game basis.
Doing it after one year is absolutely crazy.
Doing it after each game is just ridiculous.
Do you know how many quarterbacks we made look like crap back when we had the #2 defense in the league?
Dont worry about empty seats. They will fill up when the wins come back, and the economy.
We all knew this team stunk weeks ago. NOTHING has changed. Just because they played their hearts out for a few games, doesnt mean your going to see the Bucs go on a 4 game winning streak.
This team STINKS! It need ten players at least. I dont care who your coach is, your not going to win more than 4 games with this team.
IF, and thats a big IF, we see improvement, great. Its icing on the cake. But you shouldnt expect anything from this team the rest of the year. They just are not good.
Also, See Peyton Mannings stats for 1998 his rookie year. Led the league in INTs. while they went 3-13. How fast did they go from 3-13 to 13-3?

If we see zero improvement the rest of the year,
then the entire organization top to bottom has failed worse than we expected or thought. I honestly don’t expect a win the rest of the year, but I expect progress. I expect to see the OL gelling, I expect to see Sabby make a tackle and Ruud not whiff in the gap. I expect to see Stovall getting more looks and improving. I expect Freeman to get better ball security. Those things may not win a game, but if they arent progressing then either players or coaches need to go.
Will it happen overnight? Of course not, and to expect that is foolish, but over a now 13 game season, I expect to see players getting better. They should be being coached up regardless of record. To allow them to show nothing the rest of the year is just bizarre. You don’t get magically get better in minicamps. These live reps are where you improve and implement what youve learned. Think about Gaines Adams, we heard how his offseason was tremendous, how he worked hard etc. Who cares. He didnt perform and showed zero progress on the field.
Each game is a small sample, but you start combining them and its more. If Olson had one game where he called 90% pass plays, then we could say it was an outlier. But when we are 13 games in, this is a trend. He is not adapting in the least.
Freeman isn’t getting the coaching he needs (it seems). To expect him to just snap out of it next year is ridiculous. He can put in the work, so can the coaches and you may see improvement, but to expect improvement, well its not a given.
Im not saying we should fire and cut coaches/players who dont play well in one game or three games, but there should be progress. The last 3 games represents 3 opportunities for live reps, to practice good fundamentals and establish a good foundation. Im not ok with losing, but Im certainly not ok or even remotely comfortable saying the last 3 games dont matter and we should just not expect anything. If Morris or anyone in the Bucs organization said that, I would fire them faster than you could imagine. He, Olson, Dominik, Bisaccia etc should be all over the players getting them geared up.
The final grades arent written after one game, but it develops a picture of who they are as a player. 3 games, 6 games, 10 games doesnt give you the complete picture, but if any player puts 10 bad games together in a row, you have to start asking yourself why that is and either fix it or cut bait.

Well Im ok with most of your comment, but...
The OL hasnt Gelled all year, so they are not going to start now. Stovall has had what 3 years? 4 years? … to show his stuff. I WOULD like to see Freeman put out ONE more good game, and an average one.
as for Olsen, Ill say it again. I have no clue what is up other than the playbook is a disasterous joke mixture of Jags stuff, Gruden Stuff, and a sprinkle of Olsen’s personal stuff too. That is not going to improve because it hasnt improved all year.
