Sammie Scores!
So, I'm a self-confessed Sammie Stroughter fan. I promised myself after the Josh Freeman pick I despised that I would pick a selection that I liked and track his progress over the rookie season. The pick I made was Sammie Stroughter. Reasons and more past the jump.
In my short time playing football myself, I played almost exclusively at wide receiver. I've always thought like it since. I'm one of those snobs who says that wide receivers are always underrated in the draft, always underrated in the Heisman race, wide receivers aren't given enough exposure, etc. Thus, I've been tracking Sammie whenever and wherever I can. I must say, given some of his shadowy performances, he's been quite impressive. On the season, he has 16 catches for 214 yards. He has 6 kickoff returns, with a long of 97 yards (he scored on it). He has 3 punt returns for 29 yards. I'll be watching this rookie wideout from lowly Oregon State. What he could be is part of a Buccaneer return from the dead.

I've been feeling...
that Stroughter had a decent chance to make the squad… I did give him a ‘Maybe’ grade to make the team on my draft review (follow the link in my sig). It was more out of the feeling that our weak WR corps provided a good chance for an incoming receiver to prove himself.
Still and all, Stroughter has exceeded expectations. He did a decent job covering for Clifton Smith on return duties the past few weeks, always made noticeable plays on drives when needed, showed good possession-type skills, and now with his first receiving TD is buffing up his resume.
Given the roster setup, I’m figuring it’s Bryant, Clayton, Stovall, Stroughter, et al. Wondering if Stroughter moves up past Stovall at this point…

Stroughter
has played well no doubt, but stovall has shown he can catch. Clayton has 2 good games, he really is bugging me at WR.
Why do you kill threads????

Stroughter is the real deal.
…and so far the draft class of ’09 is proving to be one of the best in many years
Will the NY Jets please stop wearing those Titans uniforms. For a team that was only around for one year, Ive seen those uniforms 5 times already!

I didn't realize
how real a deal he was until I saw that KRTD…good lord that kid can turn on the jets. I was giggling when he stiff-armed that defender in front of him.

Stroughter
The videos of him at Oregon St. are amazing. The day of the draft, I looked them up. I couldn’t believe his moves. I was expecting this kind of year from him. I emailed his videos to my friends and said we have a steal in this guy. Then I heard of his depression issues. Most of that had a reasonable explanation considering the circumstances he was having to deal with at that time in his life. If you haven’t seen them you should try to find the draft videos online. You won’t be surprised that he is showing he can play at this level. He will be here for a long time.
