Poll Results; BucEm readers disapprove of Morris' job as Head Coach
It's unscientific, and it means nothing as its doubtful a Brian, a Joel, or any Glazer is going to be reading it; but the results are hardly questionable by any means. Buc'Em readers overwhelmingly choose 'Slight Disapproval' (31%) as the majority answer in yesterdays poll designed to measure our site's reader apathy towards the team, and its 0-7 record. Not lost in the results is the fact that Strongly Disapprove came in a close second (27%). In the end, almost as many people chose both of the Approval answers combined than just the one strong disapproval, showing just how overwealming Coach Morris' lack of support seems to be here on our site.
Here are the numbers, crunch them up, add them, subtract, do what you will, but applaud yourselves while your at it; as 248 people took part in this poll. .

58 Percent disapprove in one fashion or another
To 29%n approval
If this were a democracy, Morris’ re-election would be in serious doubt.

There's a difference between wanting him to go now and wanted him to learn and improve.

There is a difference
but I don’t think a head coaching job in the NFL is where you learn on the job. Most of the guys that get promoted to head coach have paid their dues many times over, and have experience at coordinator positions in the NFL.
He might be a good head coach one day, but I don’t want to my favorite team to lose while he is learning things that a qualified head coach should already know.
You get what you pay for.

Yeah, but in general
We ALL want him to improve but if you voted either of the “disapprove” choices — you disapprove of him
But I digress. I hate polls and here I am, chirping in on the results :-p

Here's a point I brought up in another post..
Most people feel Morris will be a good coach when he gets experience. He goes into 2010 with a year under his belt.
Will the NY Jets please stop wearing those Titans uniforms. For a team that was only around for one year, Ive seen those uniforms 5 times already!

I question....
How much of that is HOPE and how much is REALITY?!
Usually even if the team is struggling there is signs (glimpses) of what someone is to become if he is to be good at what he does. It just seems that Morris is regressing rather than maturing and improving. Some people just aren’t meant to have success at certain things. If anyone could be an NFL football coach their would not have been so many throughout the years fail so often. YES, it is apart of the process that sooner or later all teams will rebuild but even during those rebuilding years good teams still win some games (4-6). Not many teams have gone winless a full season. To the best of my knowledge not many seasons have had a just 1 win team. So I can’t help wonder WHERE is this feeling you speak of coming from! Surely not from the way he has ran this team up till now! OR they are seeing something that is beyond me.

Theres a difference between partial rebuilding and full rebuilding
Both the Bucs and the Colts are among the youngest teams in the league. The main difference is, the Colts still have a lot of their stars that have won a good amount of 12 win seasons as well as a staff I’m sure hasn’t changed all that much over years excluding their new Head Coach who took over when Dungy left on his own. Us on the other have a new Head Coach that took over when Gruden was fired for poor performance, with new OCs on both ends and new position coaches here and there as well as a bunch of players that have never started before. It also helps that they got to face teams like the Rams, the Jaguars, a Bad Titans team, and the injured Seahawks, while we’ve faced a 4 teams that are 5-2.
I’m not giving excuses, but reality does us no favors.

I question why people feel that way?
Do we know him? Have we played for him? I have no evidence to say he will be a great coach. To date he has not been. I would bet against him though it is far from absolute.

To fire anyone 7 games into a season would be just ridiculous
but he (and the team) have to make huge strides in the remaining 9 games. Morris not only has to overcome the 0-7 start, but the Jags and Bates signings as well. Not saying he can’t do it, but he’s fighting a tougher battle than just winning games.

IF there is any truth to the speculation of the team being for sale (If,If,If)
I don’t see him being let go. New owner will bring in own people whenever that may be IF they sell the team

I was saying this from day one...
He is not a coach. An assistant to an assistant at best. He is way over his head. I’ve been preaching Bill Cowher from day one. Makes the most sense, since we will be so under the cap and with the cap being romoved this year, what better reason, ooo and yeah 1round draft pick to go along with that.

I agree
The first thing that came to mind for me when he was named head coach was “this guy was an assistant a month ago…what are they thinking?”
I still find myself thinking that. I think it’s a case of too much, too young, and too fast. But maybe that’s just me.

don’t account for anything?

agree with Tye...
how many teams do you know in this era, that have kept their coach after not winning a game. Seeing this team play it does not look like they have the fire in them to want to play like years past. I feel like this coach is just out to make players like him. My opinion is I’d rather be feared as a coach then loved. I even think the Glazers now he was a temporary placement untill the real coach comes. And from my last post you might guess who im thinking.

here is to hope...
the saying worst to first applies to us next year.

haha
That is indeed a hope, probably not a reality. See ‘08-’09 Lions. 0-16 last year, probably 1-15 this year.
Then there’s the ‘07-’08 Dolphins…

If memory serves me right....
in both of those instances neither team had the same HC from the year before. The HC was changed by the next season!

Wow
Thats a great turnout on the poll. I can’t say I’m surprised at any of the numbers except for the 9% strong approval rating. Can’t see how Raheem’s decisions up to this point can’t have disappointed people even a little bit.

He's in way over his head,
He’s not Tomlin (who was given a Super Bowl caliber team btw) who has a pretty nice resume. Morris went from polishing helmets to head coach, and it shows. In the preseason, he was all smiles and chest bumps, now he’s got the look that the wold is about to explode. I think the Glazers realize their mistake and will let him go at the end of the season. Yeah, Morris is cheap and getting a Shanahan or a Cowher will cost them a pretty penny. But losing means less people go to the games and they lose money. It takes money to make money and hoping that Morris would be the cheap quick fix was the wrong assumption. Morris could be a great head coach, in five years. He should have been allowed to work his way to the top and not just given to him. I think he’d have to win a few games to save his job, but I don’t see that happening.

I think working for the same organization for 6 years, going from Quality control to full blown position coach...
Leaving to take a Defensive coordinator position, and the circumstances that surounded that move (Bucs secondary falling apart in 2006, then rebounding into one of the leagues better ones in 2007 when he came back…) was not exactly being ‘handed’ a job as if its a favor.

Here are the excuses I keep seeing
for Morris on thread after thread,
1. "Well,,, (Coach X) started out 2-14 his first year!
Great- Jimmy Johnson lost his first few games with the Cowboys. He was also a coach with a legit resume who you could feel comfortable about letting him take a year or 2 to get his system going. Morris has no qualifications of any kind other than he looks a little like Mike Tomlin if you squint hard enough. You are comparing apples to turds.
2. He dosent have much to work with/ they are rebuilding!
Well him and Dominik have formed the tag team of Dumb and Dumber- so whos fault is that? Also you cannot tell me the Falcons have superior talent on defense than the Bucs, yet they are at least capable of getting in a team’s way towards the end zone from time to time. That is coaching. There are several other teams that are ‘rebuilding’ that are at least able to win a game and keep competitive week to week if they dont. And so far from the people these 2 did draft, I dont see anything I would say ‘good pick’ about other than Sammie Stroughter. You have to hit on more than your 7th rd pick if you are going to have success stockpiling talent.
3. “You’re not the the huddle/practice/game! You dont know what goes on! How do you know he’s not a good coach?”
Again- flimsy. I know because I see an 0-7 team that from many sources are having internal issues. Plus what can be said from press conferences, sideline demeanor and interviews, shows me and most who are perceptive enough, a man who is clearly nowhere near being ready to run an NFL football team, much less the JV team at Jesuit High. Guys coach at lower levels and as a OC-DC for decades before they get a shot like this. And Morris backed into one for reasons I still dont quite grasp, aside from him being dirt cheap and willing to be a company man who dosent question the penny pinching ownership. I just hope before this team gets dragged to any further that whoever owns this team by 2010 cuts their losses on this bad experiment and brings in someone who will command some respect and is capable of running an NFL team.

1. Morris and Tomlin have similar resumes, except it took 12 years for Tomlin to reach head coach instead of 10 and he has a year as defensive coordinator under his belt. Not to mention he inherited a Championship team instead of having to rebuild completely.
2. Yes, the Falcons have had some great coaching to get them back on track, and so have the Dolphins. But both of those aren’t common occurrences. It’s generally viewed that it takes years to build up a Championship teams from scratch. Is he building a championship team? No one knows yet. And throwing Freeman aside, this year’s draft was so far deemed productive. It’s just that 2 of our picks are on IR while a 3rd was injuried for like 4 or 5 weeks. Both Miller and Stroughter should be here for years and the rest have yet to be cut, which is an improvement from the Gruden Era.
3. What part of his demeanor shows you he’s not prepared to be a HC? It’s not like he acts like the coach from Waterboy that hides when the pressure gets to him. Yes, it can take decades for people to reach the HC ranks. Like Jimmy Johnson had about 24 years of experience before he became the HC for the Cowboys. It also took Bill Parcells 19 years, Marty Schottenheimer 10 years, Mike Shanahan 13 years, Tony Dungy 16 years, and Bill Cowher 7 years, all while traveling their own paths throughout the football world. Raheem just happens to be apart of the trend of young coaches. Doesn’t mean he’s not ready to be a coach, though he may not be ready to be a coach in this situation. As in completely rebuilding a team all while facing playoff teams.

The draft...
Well like many im unhappy with pick #1, and feel that if we stay married to it, it may set us back years.
The rest, yes we probably should wait and see. But none are making a real impact so far, save for Sammie, which you would like to see. However I think Miller and Stroughter are the only 2 that you will still see in the NFL by 2011.
The Bucs took a chance in hiring Morris, and IMO its backfired. No its not all his fault, but the parts he has had control of I think he’s shown hes not ready. And for a team to go from 9-3 at 1 point last year to a good shot at 0-16, its been hard to swallow.
by cambi1 on Nov 5, 2009 11:00 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
That 9-3 was smoke and mirrors. Part of that was barely beating an 0-16 detroit team that put 17 on us before we woke up..
and KC who put 21 …both times we needed a special teams TD to pull out the game. No my friend, the 4 game slide, thats our representative from 2008 and were stuck with it.
This team is not pointing fingers, they are hustling, they are not quitting, Pewter report just did a piece on this…the locker room is MORE than intact, its solid. That is great coaching, not just good.
They have made some mistakes, all coaches will, but the problems on this bucs team are right on the screen…the players..
We just dont have that many good ones.
Miller is on the field now, he is about a game or two away from starting, not 2 years. Neither Is Sammy.
As for the rest, your going to see Freeman now…(he..may take a couple years to reach his max…as most QBs do)..Kyle Moore will be on the field Sunday….and dont forget we got K2 for a second rounder, that counts as part of the draft.
Also , we have heard some nice things about EJ Biggers.
Thats 6 players, 5 draft picks..
The last 5 years, your lucky if two guys get to play.
So far this draft is a direct improvement already.
Next year is even more critical..
