Does Josh Freeman have poise?
A lot of people have been throwing the P word out there about young Joshua. Well lets take a look see.
Take what you will from this, but it is clear the "clutch" veteran QB's have very high 4th QT QB RAT, and you would expect a young QB in the crunch time to crack...well they do apparently.
QB RATINGS
Quarter Josh Freeman Drew Brees David Garrad Peyton Manning Mathew Stafford
1. 116 105 96 101 105
2. 18 90 91 110 35
3. 66 107 75 86 62
4. 117 124 69 117 44
Some other notable 4th Quarter QB ratings/compared to their normal QB Rating
Mark Sanches-47/66
Matt Shaub-85/98
Kurt Warner-57/91
Tom Brady-101/100
Matt Ryan-51/78
Joe Flacco-117/90
Jason Cambell-102/87
Brett Favre-119/107(what a suprise)
So as any sports person will know, stats can easily be manipulated. This was only 2 games for Freeman, so of course seven games from now, it may look completely different. As of right know though, I think it is ok to say he has "poise", considering the stats. I know... I know, some teams sit on the ball in the 4th quarter, some teams are behind, some have bad teams, some have good teams. Its not suprising the names of the QB's who have much higher 4th Quarter QB ratings. If Freeman can keep this up, then us Buc fans should look forward to some great come backs in the future.

It's way too small of a sample size to call him clutch in the 4th quarter.
Are those numbers for the other QB’s on the year or on their career?

this season
Ive already admitted, this isn’t arnt great stats considering all the variables and hes played only two games…its just for fun. And to help the claims that he has poise, so far it shows he does.

Freeman's playing with confidence
Yes he’s making mistakes, but he’s not playing scared like JJ. I didn’t have much faith in him when they drafted him, but I think he’s gonna be legit.

It is far to early to tell.....
Some players have had great numbers in their first season and then for whatever reason became 1 hit wonders. I will say Freeman is leaps and bounds head and better than JJ. Freeman makes JJ look like a career backup!

No feet shuffle with a good touch on the ball....
He clearifies all the problems with the last two QBs. Leftwich held the ball forever then threw the ball 200 mph to compensate for his bad release. He was slow in the pocket and made bad decisions. Johnson was scared to death. He has a great arm but wasn’t sure what to do with it.
When I watch Freeman, he remains poised in the pocket and flows with the play even when he gets flushed out of the pocket. He has a great touch on the ball and with his size he reminds me of Big Ben when defenders bounce off of him. He is young so however the season continues, he’s got my vote.

Does it make sense that loosing a bit in college may not hurt you in the NFL…I mean, if you are the QB for USC you play in big games, but you also have the best recievers. Maybe loosing hurts more when you come from the elite college prgrams that cruch the teams they play. Makes sense to me, but I could be wrong. You know, from a mental standpoint.

I think it all depends on the coaching and how the player develops.
It’s just that above average receiving talent showcases it better.

I know a lot of people are really busy
So they skim through my OP, but to clarify for everyone…Anyone who says its too early, I already put that in the OP. This was just for fun, to see if we can back up describing Freem as clutch in his two games so far.

It doesn't take long to see something special
If you know anything about football or talent, you should be able to see after just a short amount of time that this kid has something special. He can make all of the NFL throws, he has all of the physical tools, he is confident, poise and isn’t afraid to make a play. In order for a QB to be good, he has to be willing to take chances. I think that the thing that makes him special though is his pocket awareness. He has a good feel for pressure and with time he will learn which play to make. But you can’t teach a feel for this game and he has it with out a question. Over time he will learn when to run, throw the ball away, checkdown or burn the defense deep.
He has been doing a great job so far and he give this franchise some hope. He makes plays and they were in 2 of the 3 games with a win in 1 and nearly a win in his 2nd game. But the defense need to step up , a good defense will help out a young QB and I like the going back to the Tampa 2 .

I like his potential
but he’ll never be that stud we all (for the most part) think he can be under this coaching staff.
