Official discussion board for Week 10 officiating
I've never been one to complain about officiating. I understand that it is a difficult job, and they do their best to get it right. However, as the quality of officiating deteriorates in the NFL, some games are getting increasingly difficult to watch.
What do you think about the officiating in Week 10's 25-23 loss to Miami?

I'll even come here and say that that interception call was complete bs.
But because it was for my team, I’ll take it. It was a purely awful call

Ive always said, you dont blame a loss on one penalty.
In this game, there is not doubt it had an effect on the outcome in some form, but the bottom line it was a terrible call, and I have utmost respect for any Miami fan who can say it was a bad call.
I understand they happen, and I dont blame Miami for the call, I blame the refs.

end of first half. Pass to Clayton was caught, ball comes out, Miami picks up returns for TD. ruling was incomplete pass.
Replay showed Clayton caught the ball, went down to the ground, rolled, THEN the ball came out after being touched. It was clearly a complete pass. The ref is full of it. Miami scored a TD, and then got the back and got 3 more points.

Go to NFL.Com
click on the Mia TB Box and watch the game highlights. They have 3 slow-motions of it. It’s at the very end of the first half.

Bottom line is we had a great chance to win the game
and our defense let us down.

I read the way the ref answered the question of the call
The problem I had with it is he never once mentions a key part of the play where Clayton actually has posession, hits the ground and is touched. AKA DOWN at that point. Maybe he is just so used to Clayton dropping passes he thought it popped out and didn’t look at the review, I don’t know. But either way it was possibly the most horrible call since the “leaping” call in 03’ against the Colts in OT..Actually, scratch that, this call was worse. At least there was some reason to the leaping call.

I wanted so badly to blame Clayton for that one...
glad you were able to find a way. I couldn’t find anyone to blame but the refs.

I believe the ref is attempting to claim that Clayton never actually fully caught it, hence Jason Taylor having an Int
as opposed to a fumble. Something regarding the “come up with the ball” clause.

Weak ass arguement. If you saw the slo mo replay
It was very easy to see the ball was caught…Unless of course you can’t see, then you get a pass.

Don't want to make it personal....
but I do agree. The ball only came out after he was twisted around on the ground. He clearly had full possesion of the ball. But I hear what you (FaroreFox) are saying. That would be the only reasonable explanation he could give (though they still haven’t). I appreciate your objectivity, even though your a fins fan. I just respectfully disagree with you.
Watching it quickly I could understand how they would come to that conclusion. However, replays are reviewed in slow-motion and freeze frames, just like you see on TV.

I'm not making a statement, or saying the ref was right, I'm just giving the rational behind his decision.
I prefer my THOUGHTS on the play to remain mum.

Yeah I am finding some solace in thinking if it was K2 it would have been ruled a catch..
Actually not really. I watched this game on dely (recorded o DVR) and avoided any reading of the score before hand. That call had me rediculously torqued up for the duration of the game. And I am usually very calm, cool and collected LOL.

Yeah, I have been pretty resigned to our failures all season.
That put me over the edge.

Me too...I am really having an issue with this one. Like I said.
I accept our D ultmately lost this one for us, but I (for some reason) can not accept the call…

If the players are as sick as we are over this loss, change is occuring

That call was inexcusable.
The explanation he gave is pathetic. UNFNOLE is correct though, the defense did lose the game for us at the end, and we don’t know what would have happened if the correct call had been made.
However, I can’t help thinking that it’s hard enough for us to beat another team without having to play the guys in the stripes too. (I’m pretty sure Holmgren said something akin to that after the poor officiating in the Seattle/Pittsburgh super bowl).
Not to mention the horrible call in last night’s game. That was a terrible spot that N.E. got even without the replay. Belichick is an idiot for going for it, but that spot was SO SHADY.
Sometimes I really do think that NFL stands for National Fixed League

Has anyone mentioned
the three facemasks on Derrick Ward that never got called and the one at the end of the game that was called against the Bucs for a personal foul that clearly was only a 5-yarder? Inexcusable indeed. True, the defense gave it up in the end, but overall, the Bucs played well enough to win and ended up with the loss. It’s hard enough to beat the 11 in front of you, but when you have tp beat the zebra too, that’s just too much.

Officiating was for sure lop-sided yesterday.
Clayton was down, butt, back, and move before the ball came out, and he didn’t juggle the ball at all. I did see the face masks that were missed. On the Dolphins opening drive, the ball that was caught near the endzone was bobbled (which I’m surprised Morris didn’t challenge), the interference call on the last drive wasn’t interference cause the ball wasn’t in the air when contact was made, and there are a few more too. The NFL really needs to hold these officials responsible and punish them for screwing things up, because it has game deciding results.

There are no 5 yard facemasks anymore
Every facemask call is a 15 yarder, regardless of severity.

They should bring back the 5/15 option
We hated it while it was here, but now that it’s gone we miss it so.

What Paul meant was
the pass interference call when it was actually just illegal contact or defensive holding. At least I believe that’s what he meant. We all know face-mask penalties are 15 yards now. But the PI call that wasn’t PI was 15 yards when the correct call would have only been 5, and makes a difference because it put them in FG range and they got the big run the next play. The refs had Dolphins shirts under their stripes or they got to hang out with Jimmy Buffet and Gloria Estefan, just didn’t add up to the way they called the game.

I agree with you, but he's referring to the face masks that weren't ever called.
I saw them and wondered why they werent called.

Hey . . .
Good call, wasn’t aware of that. That makes me even more mad about the three they missed on D Ward! WTF!?

the calls that were not.....
to be honest, as i watched the game there were soooooooo many holding calls that we didnt get. almost every run play they ran we were gettin held. i mean we may be a bad team this year but dont add insult to injury. like we dont even warrant a call because of our record and the other team can do no wrong. complete bs, and i hope the refs are happy with themselves after watchin the game. as a matter of fact i wonder do the refs watch tape of the whole game after it is called? we’ll just be left to wonder……

oh yea....
not to mention the the clayton call…………complete bs as everyone saw and knew. how can u not see that it was in posession. i dont understand. even my boy who was there with me (and is a panthers fan, needless to say he hates my bucs team) thought it was a catch. nuff said.
