An ON THIS DAY you won't want to miss! 2003 MNF Colts at Bucs!
Greatest Comeback in NFL history by most standards, as no team ever came back from such a deficit with only 4 minutes left to go in the game. I was at the Stadium for this one, and I never leave early, but this time I couldn't blame the fans for taking off.
Ronde Barber went in for a Pick6, and the Bucs were up 35-14 with 5 minutes to go. What happened next could only happen to Tony Dungy! ...and on his Birthday!
Irony is, In Dungy's book, he tells of how he planned to sit Peyton Manning at this point in the game since the outcome was no longer in doubt. But the Colts returned a kickoff DEEP into Bucs territory, so he left him in. With Brian Kelly out with an injury, 2nd year starter Tim Wansley was victimized by several deep Manning to Harrison bombs. Then add in a few onside kicks, and a rediculous bogus "Leaping" call on a missed FG, and you have one of the sickest Bucs games ever. It was so crazy, Madden and Michaels are beside themselves at the end of the game. Feel free to chant BS BS with the crowd if you want, and trust me, you'll want to! But not for long, as the rekick just sends everyone through the roof!
If you have become a Bucs fan since 2003, and you think your sick from this season, you havnt seen anything yet. Not a play is missed here in this full length 28 minute highlight movie! Not even the Snoop Dogg intro! Enjoy!

Oh the pain
of having to watch that again. After Brian Kelly went down and they replaced him with Tim Wansly, it wasn’t pretty. He got torched repeatedly in that game, and I don’t think he’s been in the NFL since the Bucs cut him at the end of the season. Yeah, that was a horrible call by the officials on that kick, but it shouldn’t have gotten to that point.

Although we were better then than now, we were not good then...
We were a 7-9 team that represented the end for that Sapp, Brooks, Lynch, Etc mini dynasty that started in 1996 and pretty much ended here in 2003 8 seasons later. The team probably should have started scrapping and rebuilding from HERE, but instead retooled with aging veterans as they felt there was another run at the Superbowl left in a lot of them.
You cannot replace Keyshawn and McCardell with Galloway and Tim Brown. And the Linemen, Deese and Stinchcomb, were total busts. They tried to duplicate the success they had in 2002 when they brought in Kerry Jenkins and Romen Oben, but just so happens those guys panned out. Deese and Stinchcomb did not. Result was a 5-11 record.
Funny thing though.. if the Bucs kick an extra point vs Carolina, and win this game (They had every chance in the world to do so), they would have been 5-0 and things may have been quite different. The 2003 season ranks as one of our best offenses ever; and its not surprise this was the only year Jon Gruden had a Quarterback start every game for him and the Bucs…. all 16.
