Ok, I'm sure I'm going to catch heat for that take on NY Jets Sanchize (or last week was being called DEmise),  but hey, what are you gonna do!

Josh Freeman got in the game and pretty much did what we expected him to do with 8 minutes left, gett sacked, throw a nice completion, and have one of those 'throw the ball away but it looks like a fumble' moment rookies have a patent right to.

For a coaching staff that has not been afraid to admit its mistakes (See Offensive Coordinator Jags), the way the Quarterback position has been handled this year seems to have been another big one. Either way, it is time to make this right.

Star-divide

The entire preseason and training camp was a complete waste. Luke McCown and Byron Leftwich took all of the valuable snaps in practice for their battle to start the 2009 season. Well they may as well have been  Jack Thompson and Jerry Goldstein; because neither one was in the Bucs plans only 4  weeks later. When it was obvious that the rumours about Byron Leftwich were actually true, the competition was already shipped off to Jacksonville.

Moving to Josh Johnson was questionable at best, but Johnson did show flashes of potential in both camp, and preseason, perhaps even winning the job in the exhibition games. In four games however as the starter, he has regressed and any chance of magically taking over this team should now be given solely to the man the Bucs stated all along would become THE Franchise here in Tampa Bay.

You don't have to like Josh Freeman's college stats or accomplishments there, or lack of if you feel that is the case. Josh Freeman is a Blue Chipper. He is the raw talent that has all of the keys necessary to be given the car to drive. He has the size, the arm, and the experience for the job. Freeman was a starter for three seasons at Kansas State, and in the history of the league, that translates into better chance to succeed early for rookie signal callers being given the reins in their first year.

In the coming weeks, we will take a look not only at Tampa Bay's rookie signal callers like Vinny Testeverde, Steve Young, and Trent Dilfer; but we will also look at the rest of the league and their history with first timers like Joe Montana, Heath Shuler, and  Peyton Manning

No one can be sure which one of these men Freemen will emulate, but one thing is certain...its time to start finding out;  in two weeks against the Green Bay Packers, wearing that familiar color of Orange to remind us of all the potential and all the heart aches and heartbreaks going with a #1 round Quarterback pick will do for you.

And all the Glory too.

I will only address the parts of the comment I understood

………

Ok, rather than leave this blank, what sparks are you speaking of? The one that gave up 50% on 3rd down conversions? The 414 total yards for the Pats? How about the 6.8 yards per play? I’m struggling to see the same “spark” you see.

I see a spark...the increase in pressure from the D line, the decrease in deep passes,

The plays were getting on defense from our D backs… they are there.

If anyone can get production out of Gaines Adams, it will be Rod Marinelli. Good Luck Gaines and thank you Bucs for restoring my confidence that there is accountability.

The D

What I meant is we been doing a little bet better in getting sacks and int, but every time we do good we get eatin up buy the big run and short pass that becomes a big play I think talib did good covering moss…

Talib

He has been really good for the most part this season and has shut down a lot of good WRs. The double move has hurt him but this is only his second year and could be a great corner for a long time.

Everyone's gonna have to step of for the Future to succeed.

Online is really gonna have to get their act together. They need to allow us to run and give the Future enough time to throw. I’d also like to see Olsen borrow some of the Patriots designs and use Stroughter as Welker.

What makes you think Bill Cowher would want to come here?

Why not

We will have money under the salary cap, plenty of draft picks, a young and some what talented team, and a great fan base. plus it’s warm most of the year, not like Pittsburgh.

by rlennonii on Oct 26, 2009 7:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Cap money that the Glazers reportedly do not use, and a young team DEVOID of talent, that will need EACH of those draft picks to hit..

and its just as warm in Carolina for Cowher.

Im afraid we are not going to get any big name coach to come to Tampa for some time, until the organization looks a little more settled in.

It's time for Freeman

He should have been in since they wrongfully benched Lefty. The longer they wait to start Freeman, the more of this mess we’re going to have to endure next year. He can have 9 games and 6 minutes of experience going into the 2010 season opener, that’s a better chance to win than playing Johnson who will be a backup. Looking at Freeman, just going by looks here nothing else, I think of Donovan McNabb, if only we could be so lucky.

by bucnut1 on Oct 26, 2009 12:01 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I am looking forward to Freeman playing

they had to make this move or they would have had a lot of empty seats vs. Green Bay.
As for the defense showing spark, I call baloney.

I was shocked at how horrible our linebacking corp looked vs. New England. They couldn’t cover any short passes at all. Every time Welker came underneath one of the outside backers got absolutely roasted in pass coverage. It was embarassing.

Maybe it’s time we all admit to ourselves that we really only three or four guys on this defense that deserve to be starting for an NFL team.

Let's hope Freeman

doesn’t end up riding the pine and collecting paychecks for years to come, but if he does I would like to go ahead and coin name

I hope in time

we can call him superbowl champion. Is that a stretch?

Tebow

Don’t forget to compare him to Tebow. Even if he turns out to be terrible in the NFL, he is going to be a better QB than Freeman.

Yes that vaunted Gator offense Tebow is running these days....

Tebow

He might make a good wildcat back or a TE, but not a QB. You just can play most option style plays in the NFL, the players are just to fast.

by rlennonii on Oct 26, 2009 7:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Tebow

All I said was to compare him to Freeman. I don’t expect him to be an elite QB in the league, but I don’t remember Freeman ever being much of a pocket passer either, not that I ever really paid much attention to him. I still expect Tebow would have more accuracy and to be better at reading a D than Freeman ever could. Not only that, but Tebow is a leader and he is smart. I don’t see that out of Freeman at all. At the very least, he would fill the stands because he is wildly popular around here, and that might be worth a high draft pick in itself to the Glazers.

Freeman was THE pocket passer at K state. He really didnt move around that much

Tebow

That should read “You just can’t play most option style plays in the NFL, the players are just to fast.”

agreed.

Just because he plays the option in college

doesn’t mean he can’t play the regular ol’position of QB in the NFL style. Like Higher said, Tebow is a leader and he’s smart, I think he’s pretty accurate as a passer and he sure can run which in high demand these days. Will we pick him up? No, but he will go in the 1st round.

by bucnut1 on Oct 26, 2009 11:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I will give you a crisp new 20 dollar bill if Tim Tebow goes in the first round.

If you come on the board and say you were wrong if he doesnt.
Deal?

I have no

Problem admitting when I’m wrong, but somebody will take him. Jacksonville is said to want him really, really bad. He will put butts in seats.

by bucnut1 on Oct 27, 2009 11:41 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Tebow is going to get paid by someone

he is too good not to get drafted. Personally I expect Tebow to play a few years in the NFL to just raise enough money to get started in politics. His family has obviously groomed to be a “super republican”.

He will probably get into the political game right after he is done with football. All of these years I keep waiting for some dirt to show up on that guy but maybe he really is just that squeeky clean.

by LeeCaz on Oct 27, 2009 1:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Tebow is a Fullback playing Quarterback

He isn’t that good……..he is surrounded by SPEED….speed….and more speed. His accuracy comes from 5 yd slants that are turned into 20-40 yd receptions. Great college quarterback but not NFL.

by buccanator on Oct 27, 2009 9:30 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

this is the most common consensus about him.

All the stories about him being a WR or TE, he has never taken hits like that, and can you see him blocking Styles White much less a premier Pass Rusher?

I do agree he puts g uys in the seats either here or Jax, but not higher than 4th round

If anyone can get production out of Gaines Adams, it will be Rod Marinelli. Good Luck Gaines and thank you Bucs for restoring my confidence that there is accountability.
