We Need a lot of help

With the Bucs going 0-6 so far this season, i really don't have confidence that we will be turning around our team this season, but i do feel we are a few players and experience away from becoming legit. For the first time since i can remember we have weapons on offense and like i said a few players away from having a legit Defense as well.

It's obvious we will have a top 5 draft pick; my question to you is, Do we draft Taylor Mays which will add to our lack of secondary; Have 2 beasts at safey will help for are lack of talent at CB (except for Talib) Or do we go with a DT such as Gerald McCoy, or Ndamukong Suh Or do we go with a DE to replace Gains Adams and move White to LE? Or Pick up another stud CB such as Joe Harden to go on the other side of Talib?

Please tell me what position we should draft, a name is not needed, just say why you feel the position needs the most help...Also i do believe we should trade our 3rd, and 4th for another 2ed round. As of right now we have a high first, and two 2ed.  i feel if we can get 3 second round picks we can really help the depth on the OLine, the DLine and in our secondary.

Tell me what you think!!!

May you need help

3rd, 4th, and 5th rounders are essential to a team as they may provide depth to a position that has injuries, can not play at all. You can find studs in the late rounds too, just need good scouting. Anyways:

1st- DT Ndamukong Suh- He helps in so many ways- him and Roy Miller is one sexy combination
2nd- CB Ras I dowling- Other than having an insane name- he can replace Ronde at RCB and make an Impact. That and Im not high on Carlos Dunlap as he keeps dropping in stock.
2nd later- S anyone- Provides depth but if sabby can work on tackling i think we are set.
3rd- WR- JOSH FREEMAN needs help
4th- DE- this is a good draft for DE’s so we shouldn’t have much of a problem picking up one.
5th- WR- Again, Josh needs help
6th- K/P- Anyone is better than dirk johnson
7th- Some random guy at LB- will do.

I don't know why you keep asking or saying we should trade 3,4,5 for another 2

It’s a dumb idea. You need all your draft picks to provide depth, particularly with a team like this. One guy doesn’t put the Bucs over the top. If you want more draft picks, then you take your 1st or 2nd rounder and slide down. And thats assuming you have multiple targets available or no high needs.

I would rather trade up

Because when as a 3rd, 4th, or a 5th rounder stepped up for us recently, in face we just traded away our number 4 pick over all from 2007 for a 2ed round pick. It’s obvious the Bucs don’t scout well. And i figure i’d rather have a 3 second round talents than 5 players whom our coaching staff says that they can start in this league and he ends up missing tackles and gives up the big play (i think you can guess whom i am talking about) Name a player besides Sammie who was drafted later than the 3rd round and now plays a big roll for us? Atleast if we get 3 players in the 2ed round we know their talent level is higher than the 5 we get to add depth. Why not add depth with a 2ed rounder?

You have to remember that Gruden/Allen didn't scout well

Dominik/Morris have done well with trading 2nd round for K Winslow and Sammy Stroughter. Miller is going to be a starting DT for us. They acquired Jimmy Wilkerson. The only question mark on their list is Freeman. I say as far as getting youthful talent, they are heading in the right direction.

Sometimes you make mistakes (M Clayton) but you live and learn.

Well if we missed on so many picks, why not trade all of our picks for players?

Look at our first round misses, which are much more devastating than 3rd-7th round misses (higher contracts and an need to see them make an impact). Clayton, Walker, Adams etc. Your 4th rounders and 5th rounders may not be super exciting, but the do other things like provide depth, play special teams etc.

And just because we pick a player in the 3rd or 4th does not make them worse than those picked in the 2nd round. The easiest example is Tom Brady.

And to answer your question on players picked after the 3rd , I’ll name a few (and I’ll stick to the Bucs)

Zuttah, Geno Hayes, Tanard Jackson, Will Allen, Mark Jones, Jermaine Phillips, Dexter Jackson (the safety), Al Singleton. And in the 3rd round alone we’ve gotten Barber, Donnie Abraham, Dwight Smith and Grammatica. All those guys played big roles for us.

That’s alot of depth and good players to give up on to shoot for a 2nd rounder. WIth a 3,4,5 pick, it gives us 3 chances to pick up 3 good players. If we miss on one, so be it, we still have two good players (hopefully). If we trade it all for a second, we have one chance.

2nd round picks – Dexter Jackson (the WR), Sabby, Sears, Trueblood, Ruud, DeWayne White, Cosey Coleman, Shaun King. Are there some good players there? Sure, but hardly can’t miss impact players.

You want to add depth with one pick when we can add it with 3 picks. That, from a strictly logical standpoint makes more sense.

Even an average secondary (we have had some average guys back there with Lynch, Barber and Co.) ...

is effective when there is a pass rush. Its like drafting killer receivers and QBs when you have no line. EVERYTHING starts up front. You put a D line together, it will all fall into place.

Ive read the only knock the Bucs have on Suh is he is not a vocal leader, and they are looking for one. The other leader they may covet is Fla middle linebacker Brandon Spikes. Ruud is not considered a leader and that is why the Bucs are not locking him up yet. This is mostly via Pewter Report stuff.

If anyone can get production out of Gaines Adams, it will be Rod Marinelli. Good Luck Gaines and thank you Bucs for restoring my confidence that there is accountability.

I know what your thinking

but the DE talent won’t fall for us till the second. Dunlap might but then he is another gaines adams (lack of motivation and sucky senior season).

Agreed. This draft will also be deeper than most in recent history ...

..because it will have the most amount of juniors jump in because of the probability of this (2010) Being the last year for rookies to cash in like they have been. So you want the most amount of picks, period, in this draft.

No safety..

I think with Jackson back, our safety tandem is pretty decent. Sabby hasn’t had the horrible game as he had in the beginning of the season. He made mistakes in the beginning but this is also his first year as a starter so there were sure to be some bumps in the road. We also saw last week that it isn’t a smart idea to go long on us anymore.

Ultimately, the most important need is DL but I wouldn’t force a pickup there.

I don’t understand why on this thread people are saying what position we should draft but on a Gaines Adams thread we complain about why we reached for a DE when Peterson was on the board. Are you willing to go back into the same scenario? I say draft the best player on the board

even if it is a safety

That would be Suh

or Mccoy, A lot of good players are good on the board.

Otherwise

You’re looking at a bunch of QB’s, you really want that.

Gotta go DT

good post,

but i think u gotta go DT. I mean if u really think about it, our whole D philosophy i(f u want to call it that this season) starts with pressure up front. even when we ran the Tampa 2 it started with pressure up front. that is the main reason why we have been getting gashed on all phases of the game. the corners are on islands because of no pressure from the line, the line is also gettin beat up during the run hence why we are near last in the league in run D. and i dare anyone to say im wrong…..CHECK THE TAPE. we need to go strictly D next year with all picks. 1st-DT, 2nd-OLB/CB, and so on….

by BucsUp7368 on Oct 25, 2009 9:44 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I agree we need to get help on the D

Line, I’m even thinking we go DE with our 2ed pick, and CB with our 3rd pick. I think we can get a quality CB in the 3rd round and with an upgraded line and having TJax and Talib the rest don’t need to be studs; they just need to be a little above average. But an upgraded Pass rush that will automatically make the secondary better

by shadowchicken on Oct 25, 2009 10:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

CB is important

After Ras I Dowling, I really want to doubt the CB’s in the 3rd. DE are falling to the 2nd like hell. That and the bears are losing (knock on wood) so we could get a nice DE in the 2nd later.

T-Jack is back, J.J has went back to sucking, Bates won't blitz, Raheem's bored.

Eric Berry

would be my pick with our top five pick. He is a lot like a Polamalu.

by Trobes05 on Oct 25, 2009 11:13 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

They say never go safety with a top 1st round pick, but there is always the exception.

Could you imagine T jack and Berry together? with Aqib? what a ball hawking secondary. No one would throw deep on us.

I still say DL is first though. Suh.

Eric Berry

Hands down. However, if the Bucs get a top 3 pick, it’ll be tough, because it’s hard to take a safety with a top 3 pick. Still, we are in DESPERATE need of a playmaker at receiver, which could come in Dez Bryant from OK State. So, if we get a top 2 or 3 pick, trade it and the second round pick we got from the Bears for Gaines Adams, and move down a few picks, we could take whichever fell to us and be happy.

Just as long as we don’t pass on someone like DeSean Jackson to take someone like Dexter Jackson (who is at home watching games on Sunday currently), I’m cool with it.

Word to your mother.

I dont see any way the top pick goes on an offensive player.

But Im fully in belief of taking best player available, in our position.

Arrelious Benn

for all he’s worth could drop in stock, Keep in mind- Desean Jackson is built around speed, Dez Bryant isn’t very deep speed quick- he has elusiveness and the ability to make YAC. Think Chad Ochocinco.
