One game in, Adams replacement a marked improvement

Now appearing in the stat line; The Right Defensive End.

Now appearing in the stat line; The Right Defensive End.

He's only one number higher in the grand scheme of things. But #91 added much more to the game than #90 has all year. Styles G. White, a name you have to check twice before you finalize any document, started Sunday in place of Gaines Adams who was traded midweek to the Chicago Bears. Several games this year Adams was not even able to appear in the stat line whatsoever. In his first start since the trade, White did not catch the NFL on fire, but he at least brought something to the table. When Adams can go games without a single tackle, White's first one as a starter produced eight tackles, one sack, a quarterback hit, and  two tackles for a loss. Basically half a season's worth of stats for Adams.

Kudos to Aqib Talib:

The effort will probably go lost, as the defensive line gave up a second straight 250+ yard rushing performance to Carolina, including a final drive in which the Panthers passed the ball on only one play, a pass to Steve Smith; Smith's only reception of the game. Blanketed by Talib, Smith was unable, or unneeded to make a game changing play on Sunday. This marks 3 consecutive games that Talib has dominated in the secondary, also blanking young phenom DeSean Jackson to one catch for 4 yards last week, and grabbing 3 interception against the Redskins, despite giving up a touchdown deep. Its the last time Talib has given up a score, as he is starting to provide dividends for his high draft status in his first season as a full time starter. Tanard Jackson with his Pick 6 and Talib are showing Bucs fans a glimpse into the future.

Good

Article. Talib and Jacksons’ return to the D, have been bright spots for the pass defense which which seems to be getting better. [knock on wood]

Did anyone go to the game?

I’m wondering how if Smith was open and missed, or double teamed? JDH has been awful this year.

Ill go with BucWild on this one, Im sure he had opportunities,

But Ive also heard that his coverman, Aqib, was locktight once again.

If anyone can get production out of Gaines Adams, it will be Rod Marinelli. Good Luck Gaines and thank you Bucs for restoring my confidence that there is accountability.

Stylez

had a pretty decent game. Don’t know why he wasn’t put in sooner, but I guess if we would have benched Adams then we coudn’t have gotten a 2nd round pick for him. I guess it’s a good thing.

Talib has looked good, but he would look a lot better with some safety help every now and then.

I officially hate this defense. Can’t stop the pass, can’t stop the run (when it counts) can’t get to the QB consistently, no creative blitzing. The scheme doesn’t have anything to do with missed tackles though. That is on the players and the players only. Wrap up. Quit arm tackling. Pee Wee football players get yelled at and benched for that kind of crap.

Missed tackles have been killer all season

I think just fixing that makes our defense much MUCH better. That and getting pressure on the QB.

I agree, its the players, and it starts up front. Wilkerson is the only one who is playing. And now White too. lets see how he plays down the stretch (Stylez).

But I think we stopped the pass pretty good, only 70 passing yards!

Good to hear that

Talib is playing well, along with TJax. We got some bright spots. Now if we can get a dominate DT and pick up another good Secondary piece then we might be on our way….Plus lets throw lots of money at Seymore….

Good to hear Talib is getting some respect

I told you guys, Talib is being underrated- facing up against desean jackson/manningham, smith (NYG)/stevesmith (CAR)/sant. moss- he has been absolutely phenomenal. Let’s hope he can continue this against moss and welker.

Moss has played poorly

against good corners all season. He was shut down by Revis and Bailey. I’m curious to see how Talib stacks up in comparison to them.

Also

Panthers played smart ball, running all game to tire our D and keep our offense on the bench. Kudos to them.

I agree, Dom won't be sitting on his hands

I know it may sound stupid, but I actually enjoy watching to see how the Bucs will dig out of this. I don’t doubt that they will and really don’t care about wins this season. I want to see some improvement in the players we plan on keeping.

I agree

Like I’ve said, I can go through a few bad seasons, as long as we build up a real competitive team in the process.

Thats the one nice thing about sucking. The offseason goes by faster because there is always something in the news.

Plus, I have some sinister plans for videos this offseason.

This sounds fun, Question: can you get vids of players on other teams?

So does anyone else

Think we should make a reach for Jeff Fisher?? I mean, we get a stud DT, some solid DB’s and some depth at the OL then we are right in the mix to be good again…Is it just me or am i crazy?? Also i believe we should trade picks 3,4,5 for another 2ed….is that crazy? Having 1, 2,2,2 would really help..

by shadowchicken on Oct 19, 2009 8:20 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Again

we need depth. Right now Geno, Quincy, T-Jack, Roy Miller, Kyle Moore are all starters on our D that were taken after the 2nd round. Jackson and Geno are playing well. You need depth. Most teams pull players from those picks. Perfect example is Stroughter. The more picks we have, the better.

I personally am not saying its a bad idea but...

wouldnt every team do that? If it was a good idea…

Remember when Ditka traded all his pics to get Ricky Williams, yea that was one of the worst draft moves of all time.

by Hook85 on Oct 19, 2009 11:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

or a little farther back...

Minnesota and Dallas, the Herschel Walker trade. Dallas built a Superbowl team around that.

by Niko Houllis on Oct 20, 2009 9:07 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well since its the 3rd time youve asked, and youve had no takers, yes, it is crazy.

You need players, and 3rd and 4th round players are impact players too. You dont give up 2 future starters and a future potential depth for one starter, and thats what you would do if you trade a 3, 4 and 5 for a 2. Besides, you can find a draft trade chart online somewhere, and Im pretty sure it would show that is not a smart trade too.

But by Jeff Fisher you mean Titans coach Fisher?
Doesnt the fact that he will be available because he will be fired because he is 0-6 bother you in any way that your trying to drive out your own coach who is also 0-6?
1) Why do you want an 0-6 coach OR
2) Why do you agree ITS NOT THE COACH (if you want Fisher), but want to get rid of Morris?

Not only because Morris just hasnt proven himself?

Maybe he’ll actually learn some techniques over there from the veterans, Rod, and Lovie.

he could explode over there

Gaines..

Gained alot out of that trade. However so did we. DE need the help from DT to be able to stop the run so that they when the other team drops back to pass they can just start teeing off. Our DTs also didnt do a good job in pass rush either so it made it extra difficult on Gaines. He should do well in Chicago. But we needed the pick and with our DTs offering no help Gaines wasnt much of a help either. So its a win-win in my book.

thats hillarious!

They only remember that TD he scored last year, which was an Orton gift. Only reason he was able to pick it off is because as normal, he is nowhere near the QB when he’s releasing the ball!

I saw some early excitment...

I finally got to see the Bucs play since I live in SC and it was the Panthers. At first I was excited, then I just got annoyed with the lack of interior D-line and team tackling letting them run so easily.

I under stand what u saying

It’s like watching high school football on tv like a division 1-A team playing a division 2-team. Ok every game I watch we do good and we do bad like the passing plays we do bad and Rushing yard we do good but when it comes to the next game it flips around bad rushing good passing protection on our D so untill they get on the right path we should do good I mean dam good I like what I see in our O it’s just that we give up on the run to early I just hope when we play new England hope our D steps up this week and I hope the DB we Brang in can help out I have a funny feeling about this game just hope we pull it out this week cause I’m looking for en up set this week like what Oakland did to them gay a$$ Philly last game good for Philly hahahaha O yeah Oakland have a W they gay to hahahaha thos gay team……

We Going to the Ship...

I appreciate your feedback and comments on here. Your points of view are not only welcomed, but needed to make this community a better one. However, its almost impossible to understand your point(s) because you have over 100 words and probably a bunch of good points, but they are lost because you didnt use any periods to break up your sentences, so they ran on and made it hard to guess what your talking about. Sometimes people make mistakes, thats totally understandable. I forget a period here or a comma there all the time…

We don’t want to have to be grammar or punctuation police, but in the future, if you really want people to dig what you have to say, and thats why we leave comments, to sound off, take an extra minute and prepare your comments and your points, which are probably good ones, will be better understood.
Thanks!
