Party Atmosphere Over?
A few weeks ago a heated discussion began after I suggested there was too much of a party atmosphere going on with the coach actually taking time off to play records. I also pointed out that I had a hard time taking Raheem seriously when members of the team were saying "he's cool, he's one of us" and "he likes to thug it up". It looks like the players were also having a hard time taking him serious. Now it was announced this week no more music in practice. They were going to use the loss as motivation instead of loud music, This is the best things I've head all year looks like Raheem is taking things a little more serious. I hope he can make the transition from "friend" to coach without any difficulties. He has gained some respect in my eyes the party is over its time to get down to business!

I will criticize Raheem for a lot of things
but I don’t know if their practice habits are to blame for losing.

Right because getting tougher in practice will not affect the way the play

How does music playing or not playing make you tougher?
If you want to hang your hat that the music playing in practice is what kept this team down, that’s fine. Just know that it is an utterly ridiculous philosophy.

Proffesionals respond much differently than high school football players.
Most don’t need a strict disciplinarian to work hard in practice.

your right and thats what this article is saying
He took the music away as a result of the losses, Raheem is basically saying…look, theres no music on Sundays to keep you guys pumped and up-beat. So we are gonnna find other ways of motivation. It comes down to an old saying from the UCLA Basketball Coach. “If you fail to prepare, you are preparing to fail”

I thought Jon Gruden blasted music at practice too?
Anyways, Im not sure how much I would read into that either, but I hear things sometimes that make me like or dislike a coach or player better. If thats how he has earned a little respect from you, so be it.

Too much
is being made about the music playing aspect of the story. Look at the broader picture and the players comments, also there were reports made by fans they saw players just walk away while raheem was talking to them. I saw raheem as a young guy to concerned with being a friend and having a good time with his players which = poor play on the field. Now it looks like he is growing up a little bit and taking things more seriously. I was never against playing music in practice I was against the whole party atmosphere and it looks like the players werent buying it either. But hey Unfole and Bucwild why dont you guys send memos to raheem and tell him to get off the field and back into the dj booth since that was working so much better
by bucfanlostiniowa on Oct 16, 2009 4:20 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
i've heard zero reports of players walking away from Raheem
Please show me the links to that. Until I’m shown otherwise, I refuse to believe this.
He didn’t sit in a freaking booth and play music instead of being on the field, that’s how you take it. They can run an iPod or have someone else run the music. I have seen with my own eyes him on the field with the music playing.
He has taken it seriously, and you can be a players coach and still win.

First day of camp he had them running gassers..not partying.
Then you had the 3rd day of camp, he made them all go full contact because he didnt like the tempo of the practice.
Your point was the music, you did not make any other point other than the music in your opening paragraph.
If you meant more to it, that is fine.
I did not see anyone walk away, but Im not in the Bucs locker room, so I dont know what is going on.
I can tell you from the play on the field..I dont see a sign of players not respecting their coach. They are playing until the end.

this is not something
I made up obviously the team thought the music was a distraction or they wouldnt have stopped it. Why is music such a polarizing issue in the first place. Just like the last time i brought it up people want to focus on the music only. I was using the music the players comments and fan reactions combined to point out what i perceived as flaw in a rookie coach now a month or so later Raheem has turned off the music so now he is taking things more seriously

Practice doesn't equate into much
Gruden rested his veteran players, who still managed to get hurt and worn down. I’d be willing to be every team plays music at some point. Particularly when preparing for dome games. They simulate music and crowd noise.

Not about the music!
go back and read it again
by bucfanlostiniowa on Oct 16, 2009 4:51 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I did read it again
There are 7 sentences. 3 involved playing music.
I suggested there was too much of a party atmosphere going on with the coach actually taking time off to play records
Now it was announced this week no more music in practice
and here is what led us all to think you were talking about the music being the reason we suck.
They were going to use the loss as motivation instead of loud music, This is the best things I’ve head all year looks like Raheem is taking things a little more serious.
That sentence reads to me, “Since the music will be stopped, Raheem is now going to be serious about coaching”. So I don’t think I inferred anything different than what was written.

that is the part that is
mind blowing the fact that raheem wants to turn off the music and focus more on football is a con to anybody
by bucfanlostiniowa on Oct 16, 2009 5:41 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Turning the music on or off does not mean he is taking football more or less seriously.
They are not mutually exclusive. Do other teams take football less seriously because they play music? If that were the case, dont you think every team would ban fun, music and non-padded practice. This is a copycat league and if something gives you an edge, everyone copies it. The fact that most teams have music at some practices indicates that its not a big deal.
Morris is still trying to find himself as a coach. He is 5 games in, so he has to learn how to coach as “the guy”. You arent born with all the tools and knowledge. Gruden is much different now than he was a QC coach.

There's a fine line between what you meant and what you said.
YOu wanted to talk about how Raheem (in your opinion) is taking things more seriously now. I dont think thats the case, but you pointed to music being played at practice as the sign he wasnt earlier.
If you dont like how he does things, thats fine, but to spin it as the music is the reason they played bad or he wasnt taking coaching seriously is wrong.

You know.
I’ve tried supporting this site. JScott was a nice guy, I liked CraigT, Buc Wild works hard, and even when you took over I tried. I’m a Buccaneers fan and someone who tries linking to the other local SBN sites when possible. I’m also a slave to logic. Sometimes that’s a very bad thing. Right now, that logic is the only thing stopping me from ripping you to pieces.
I know some of my readers at DRB are absolute little terrors, and coming from a place where idiocy is outlawed, sarcasm is in high force, and they’re treated like equals to here is a culture shock. That’s not entirely your fault. Maybe I’m too relaxed with the regulars, maybe I let them stretch the bounds because I know and trust they won’t go too far. Still, 3QC, Raw Charge, and Tomahawk Nation share common readers and we’ve never had issues with each other. That’s three years and running.
And dude, have you ever read DRB? I mean, honestly read it? I know there’s facts and charts and scary words, but if you think that site is all about name-calling then you’re flat out being dishonest. Further, you deleted a comment that bashed that Sprint phone. Why? You deleted my comments about that Buc Report guy being an open plagiarist. Why? Why would you delete that if I’m allowed to write whatever I want within reason on this site? He admitted he was a plagiarist and yet my comment just disappeared as did the entire thread.
You can’t claim throne to all opinions welcome then go around deleting things that you don’t agree. It doesn’t work that way. You can’t expect people to respect you when you do that shady junk either.
And note: this comment is fully within your TOS, just like my previous plagiarist comments. I didn’t curse, personally insult, or use racial epithets. Nor did I use sarcasm.

I have replied to this via email to RJ....
I explained to him, that the Phone situation is an SB NATION mandatory post. It was not my doing. I would have allowed negative posts in there, but instead, the negative posts were full of the stuff I have made clear we dont want over hear on BucEm, Slurs, Racial, Ethnic and otherwise, and profanity. These are the reasons a handful of people have gotten banned from your site, not just because they are from your site, but because of the content of their posts/comments.
I openly apologize to you RJ, for removing your posts about the other site.
As for DRB, Im not sure why you are being so hard on me, I have not said a word about DRB anywhere that is derogatory. Its an excellent site, except for one feature which I would never have on mine. I respect your decision to carry whatever content you feel you want, I only ask to be equally respected.
Any member of DRB who has been banned is welcomed to email me and ask to be reinstated. I will not apologize, nor will I ask for one. It can be water under the bridge as far as Im concerned. All I ask is that you state you understand that what is acceptable and normal on one site is not acceptable here.

But I was the one being banned. Thank goodness you are not in charge here.

I can imagine
worse fates than being banned from DRB. I wouldn’t take it too seriously if I were you. I would much rather have someone on my blog that brings good discussion and opinions to the table than someone that rips other people’s grammar and spelling skills, uses sarcasm to try to belittle them in order to make themselves feel superior, and is just an all around jerk.
He has to live with himself on a daily basis, and one day he is going to wake up and realize how empty his life is. There is no excuse for being hateful to perfect strangers.

all this is pointing
the blame of our 0-5 record on the music. They are trying to explain to us fans that once the music is gone we will start wining. So that we keep going to the games, that we keep spending money, and then they are hopping that once the fans realize we still suck, they will put in Freeman, and say, “if we lose now, it’s because we have a rookie QB” shit, we’re going to get 3 wins this whole season, get the 2,3 pick in the draft (Rams will get the first) and hopefully we draft a stud DLineman, whom will free up Adams whom will start producing because he isn’t the only guy trying to get to the QB. We won the SB because we had a great DLine….we need to get back to that…Maybe sign Syemore or Peppers, along with drafting a Dline man….talk about pressure……

Why
would there be music in practice anyway? To me that’s like listening to your iPod during a big lecture in college.
Dungy was a players coach, but he didn’t put up with anything and didn’t chest bump anybody.
Morris being “one of the guys” just isn’t gonna work. It’s like your buddy is your manager, you know you’re gonna get away with things, it’s just the way it is.

Every coach has his own personality.
Morris chest bumps, Parcells will eat you alive, Norv Turner just wanders around, Dick Vermeil cries, I see nothing wrong with carving your own niche as long as the team plays well. If it’s proven that Morris style is why the team is bad, then get rid of it, but I think it’s more the talent on the field than the man pressing the buttons.
