Report: Jeff Garcia On The Trading Block for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Pro Football Talk is reporting that Gruden and Garcia are ready to kill each other, and so Garcia's out there for anyone who wants him. It's apparently so bad that they just might cut him outright, leaving the team to go with Griese, Luke McCown and Josh Johnson.
Were you guys expecting this kind of thing to happen at all? Can this team do as well with Griese under center as it has with Garcia?
JScott:
A big thanks to Dave from our FALCONS blog for posting this information as i was foaming at the mouth to do it from work but couldnt thanks to website blockers. Son of a... This is an amazing and bizarre term of events. To answer your questions Dave, No and Heck no!
Here's the only quote you need to read from Jeff Garcia and today's events:
"I feel like I'm emotionally stable. I'm not a basket case. I'm not somebody who's going to take away what this team's focus is. I don't know if coach believes that because things that have stockpiled it has seemed and that maybe I have allowed to stockpile have taken away from the edge that I normally have on the field. If that's what he believes, if that's what he feels, I need to do my best to get that back and prove to him that it's there." - St. Pete Times
Look at Jeff Garcia's mindset within that quote. Tell me thats a guy thats over what took place during the off-season. I wonder if Gruden saw that Garcia wasnt giving 100% in the game Sunday and is just fed up with Garcia's behavior. At least we found out how Garcia hurt his ankle, he rolled it Sunday, right...

I'm not sure if Griese is an upgrade or not
but it sure makes things look better for the rest of the NFC South. A QB carousel can’t be good for moral or offensive continuity.

Classic Gruden
I’m really tired of Grudens management style and his inability to produce. I should feel good about our chances against Atlanta, but I don’t. I’m looking forward to the day Gruden and his pal Bruce pack up and leave Tampa. Thanks for shakin up our team again Jon!

i wouldnt get rid of Gruden
to me this is all on Garcia. He’s the one that can’t get healthy enough physically and mentally to get over the off-season. Everybody says the organization held Jeff out of games last season to avoid paying him a bonus… That was crap and Garcia has proved his inability to stay healthy
As far as Allen he’s yet to bring the necessary pieces in on offense to help Gruden out. His drafts leave alot to be desired as well, outside of the defensive side of the ball, but i’m sure Kiffin and his scouts have the upper hand in that department

Neh
Its big egos and bigger prides going rapier to rapier… and Garcia is playing with a foam sword…. but yeah, I say throw Brucey boy out on his ass for his indecisive BULL trade his ass…. if all else fails, cut his ass and send him home to Carmella crying. Im done trying to defend this whiny pseudo-octogenarian.
McCown is auto fail, Griese is an old dude just looking for a job and JJ has zero experience… YEAH! GO BUCS! sucker punches Bruce Allen in the ….

flat out
if the line blocks like they did last week, brett , peyton, marino .. none would do better than garcia did … nice that they (and basically most of you) put the blame squarely on jeff’s shoulders though.. hopefully jeff will be back, sooner rather than later .. the only people that looked like they wanted the ball last week were hillard, graham, and dunn

Hey Jeff, I'll buy the plane ticket and even drop you off at the airport
Like I said in another thread, I think I’m still bitter about the Bucs not trading for Favre. I can’t stand Garcia and would be happy to show him the door.

I don't think any of us
know what’s going on off the field. Garcia looked like crap and has been feuding with Gruden allegedly. Who gives you the best chance to win each week? There is no question that Jeff Garcia, when healthy and focused, is that guy…. by far. However, if he’s not Jeff Garcia circa 2007, this team will go nowhere.
One of the questions I posed before the season started was whether Jeff Garcia can stay healthy and play the good soldier routine after the Favre and contract fiascos. If he’s not focused, not giving 100%, and creating a problem in the locker room, then I understand Gruden sitting his butt to make a point early in the season that this is his team and he’s not going to put up with a sulking, moody Garcia this season. I hope to high hell that there’s a way to reconcile this spat, get Garcia on the field, let Joey get healthy, put some sticky glue on Antonio Bryant’s gloves and finally have a downfield passing threat.
Cannons... fire them.

you said it perfectly
“he’s not focused, not giving 100%, then I understand Gruden sitting his butt to make a point early in the season that this is his team and he’s not going to put up with a sulking, moody Garcia this season.”
“I hope to high hell that there’s a way to reconcile this spat, get Garcia on the field, let Joey get healthy, put some sticky glue on Antonio Bryant’s gloves and finally have a downfield passing threat.”
that’s pretty much how i see it

Why is it that every offensive player has so many nice wonderful things to say about Gruden on their way out the door?
Oh wait, no, the opposite is true.

I think Garcia, even when happy/healthy, could only take this team so far
Griese can really jump in and give this team the offensive production we need, just look back to when he started for us in 2005 and we started 4-0 until he got hurt. I guess we’ll see though, because if griese plays well Garcia will most likely not have a spot on this team.

jeff garcia
What the heck is going on with coach gruden? benching a pro bowler for greise? common guys call it what it is and that is garcia was a pro bowl qb last year so are you telling me from last year and now he not good anymore? one interception and he benches him for 6 interceptions from griese? the bucs are lucky to win that last two and that luck will run out soon ..then the boos will come….hmmm bonehead gruden!!! lets see hmm proven commodity or griese… any freaken person with football savy will tell you its a no brainer start garcia!!!!!
to those that doubt garcia dont worry he been an underdog his whole life and im sure he will get through another bs chapter of no respect. if gruden thinks garcia is no good then trade him to the vikings or greenbay.. nothing to lose right?
