Jeremy Stevens haters need to back off
Seriously. I mean, the NFL is a second chance league. EVERYBODY gets a 2nd chance, and a 3rd, and a 4th and so on. I know the guy is a POS for what he did in college. I get that. And I know he is one DUI from calling Bubba his new teammate. But he has been a decent addition to our offense (at least in the latter half of the year) and he's a huge target at 6'7 260lbs. The biggest thing is that he hasn't screwed up in a TampaBay uniform and the Bucs brass thought enough of him to give him another shot.
If PacMan can go around shootin up the club and if the whole Patriots organization can cheat to win SuperBowls, then why not give an alcoholic another chance?

lol
“Why not give an alcoholic another chance?” .... Man you are killing me today
i gotta be honest, i hated the Stevens signing last off-season and was elated when the Bucs presumably moved on by bringing in Troupe and Gilmore this off-season. I don’t see the need for a 4th Tight End, but it is what it is.
I hear you on the baggage talk, you almost can’t follow a professional sports team without looking the other way at certain times. Its inevitable… That doesnt mean we have to condone it, but it is what it is…. I hope he performs well because he’s wearing a Bucs uni, but I wouldnt bat an eye if he didnt make it through training camp…

STEVENS 1 MORE TIME
I`m not sold on the fact we`ll have that many tightends on gameday but the guy is a big target and has stayed clean..right? Not saying what he did was right, hell no, but maybe he will grow up and be proud to wear our Pewter and Red. He should feel blessed to be in the free world I agree with ya on that sir. And thats a fact. Maybe I`m more lenient than most. I wish we had a team roster full of BROOKS and BARBERS but thats never going to happen.

Minority...
Well I seem to be in the minority here, if I were Allen, there is no way in hell I’d let trash like Jeremy Stevens anywhere near my locker room. People mess up, people have issues, I understand that, but he isn’t just an alcoholic or drug addict fighting his demons, what he did in college (ALLEGEDLY) is beyond just fighting personal demons, its becoming one. I know he wasn’t convicted but that doesn’t make him any less guilty, just ask OJ, the evidence doesn’t matter when you have the lawyer(s) and law enforcement simply drops the ball.
In the end, I can only hope his karma catches up to him.

the most hilarious thing of all to me is
The Bucs made this exact same signing last off-season and I assure you, there wasnt this big of a backlash. I hated the signing, as I did the Kevin Carter signing. I just think its funny how many people are up in arms this time... considering he’s already played with the team and yet to do anything damning (other than having his agent convince Bruce Allen he’s worth signing)....

neh
I agree, there wasn’t a whole lot of backlash when he was signed the first time around, probably mostly due to the SLOW off season this year and its actually been getting some more media attention this time around. My opinion however is unchanged between then and now, but in this case, I simply lacked a sounding board.

Was Stevens ever charged on that alleged college incident?
I didn’t think he was, but maybe I’m wrong. And he did play for an NFL team before joining the Bucs, right? He was a Seattle Seahawk from 2002 to 2006. So the way I see it, the NFL is at fault here, not the Bucs. If they allow guys like Stevens to play in the league then I say why not?
