Buc News: Haye Signs, Garcia Whines, Griese trys
The Bucs have signed FB B.J. Askew to a 4 year deal worth approximately 8.6 Million.
I didnt realize the Bucs valued Askew that much. He rarely ever got the ball on offense, though when he did he did nothing short of gain yardage. Hopefully Gruden incorporates him more in the offense in the coming years, as he has great instincts and a fantastic motor....
DT Jovan Haye has finally signed his one year contract reports the St. Pete Times.
Haye signed a one year deal for $2 million bucks. He's coming off a breakout season in which he had 6 sacks. I really liked Haye, he seemed to get better as the season went on and he has a fun flare to his personality. Hopefully DE Greg White looks at Haye's contract and follows suit. Neither have the experience or track record to demand much of a pay increase or years....
QB Jeff Garcia is still complaining about his lack of a contract extension.
I think everyone outside of Garcia and his agent agree with GM Bruce Allen and his handling of his 38 year old QB's contract demands. It's like Garcia has yet to realize that all the QB's he claims to produce as much as are light years younger than he. Sure production is production, but age plays into that and the Bucs arent going to give him loads of money for one decent season. Garcia's talking about skipping voluntary mini-camps, hopefully he realizes he has absolutely no leverage. If he tanks it this season or holds out, his career is over, if he plays well, just maybe the Bucs reward him, but its highly unlikely. Why not just have fun and play your final years out without worrying about that last paycheck, you should have saved enough along the course of your career any way...
QB Brian Griese is looking to get back to the way he was several years ago in Tampa, he's no longer angry at Head Coach Jon Gruden for trading for him this off-season
How depressing would it be to see Garcia get hurt and Griese actually have to take the reins, yuck... Hopefully Garcia quits pissing on the 2 million he's due this season and just plays healthy ball. Garcia goes down early and this could easily be a transition aka lost year
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Cadillac Williams continues to make his way back to the playing field. He goes so far as to say he ought to be ready by July
I don't think I've ever wanted another player to regain his health, form, and become a consistent contributer like Caddy (Maybe Alstott). He's so genuine and seems like he's doing everything he can to see the field. The fan base is with you man. Take your time...
The Super bowl to be hosted by Tampa is only 263 days away. You can volunteer to help promote the event by clicking here and then clicking the volunteer link.
That would be a pretty cool event to be apart of, i mean, not everybody gets to be a part of the Superbowl. Imagine if you volunteered and your post was to inform guests at the local Hilton about the ball game, in other words, youre light years away from the stadium and festivities. Um yeah.. Go volunteer though

Garcia
I can’t really blame Garcia for being pissed, I know I would be if I had gotten screwed out of my 2 million dollar bonus because my coach decided to sit me for the last two games of the season, I honestly don’t think he is asking much, not $60 million or anything outrageous, just to get what is owed him. We owe Garcia for this previous season, it might have been just an ‘alright’ season, but look what happened when Simms went down and Gradkowski was thrown into the fire….. it was the hardest time I’ve ever had watching football, and especially the Bucs… I’m not saying sign him long term, just cut Simms, give his 2 mil to Garcia for a single year or two year extension and let him retire as a Buc while mentoring JJ…..

i hear you
but with that said, he signed the contract a year ago. The 2 million was fine then, did he expect to play decent in ‘07 thus figuring 2 mil would be sufficient for ‘08? Also, although Garcia was held out, it wasnt in an effort to restrict him from earning his bonus and i know your not iterating that, but Garcia was a liability all season health wise. In every game he was one step away from being out for the season. Gruden was damned if he did and damned if he didnt, when determining whether to play Garcia those final two games. Jeff got hurt late in the season against the Texans and I think that more than anything prompted Gruden to sit him. Plus like you said, Gradkowski and Company would have stunk up the playoffs, not that the offense did much better without either on the field.
i see where Jeff wants an extension, especially at his age, but i whole heartedly see where the organization is going with this. Garcia was a band-aid coming in and he’ll be a band-aid going out. He’s capable of taking this team somewhere, but i’m not sure the organization believes that will happen, hence the lack of a contract extension.. I’m kind of proud of Allen for taking such a hard stance with Garcia, but i think we all have to remember its still early. Haye just signed, White is probably soon to follow, as is Graham… Allen’s just taking his time despite pissing his only capable QB off for the time being…

All QBs...
are damned if they do, damned if they don’t in the NFL, getting hurt is one of the risks with playing the game, however his contract had performance stipulations, which he would have surpassed to increase his pay day if Gruden had let him play those last two games. That is why he is pissed off, 2 million dollars along with the stipulations WAS fine a year ago, and would still be fine now and he would have made those stipulations if he hadn’t been held out of the last 2 games, whether it was to gank him or otherwise, it cost him the money that he had rightfully earned by playing his ass off … im not advocating a long term extension or anything, just that he pretty much got screwed and for a starting QB that took them to the playoffs (coughrode the defensecough) last year after a dismal season the year before, he deserves better….. band-aid or otherwise….
Now to his bitching, its WAY too early to start bitching about contracts, show up at your mandatory practices and meetings and zip it until minicamp.

i just think
he has noone to blame but himself and his agent. He didnt play in those final two games for a reason: he’s a risk on that field. He could have avoided alot of his injuries from a year ago by killing plays rather than attempting to extend them. I never understood why he did that, seeing how his Receiving Corp never thought to come back to the ball and bail their QB out…..
I see where youre coming from in terms of his bonus money though, but again it was on him to stay healthy and he didnt prove he could do that. Gruden didnt just sit him to rest his players, he sat Jeff so he didnt kill himself in those final two games with his reckless play (which makes him a better QB), but had Jeff not had a concussion, cut hand, busted lip, hurt back etc etc, he would have reached those plateaus….
PLUS if he had a better season statistically, he might have been rewarded as well. 13 Touchdowns is not great, despite the production prior to him arriving….
He’ll get his money though
