Fan Debate: Carolina Panthers Fans want MORE for DE Julius Peppers

...ATTENTION...

I just wanted to apologize to anyone who read the Carolina Panthers Fans post in the comments section. Behavior like that will NOT be tolerated on this site. I expect anyone and everyone who comments on this site to at the very least treat people your responding to with the respect they deserve. You can cut people down in a joking manner, but don't curse at folks for voicing their opinions. That's all I wanted to say, again I apologize for that fans actions...

So I know I said I was sick of "Trade Talk", but I didnt say anything about good-spirited fan-base to fan-base trade talk. Over the past couple weeks I've discussed the Bucs potential to Trade for the Carolina Panthers DE Julius Peppers who is rumored to be on the trading block...

I polled fellow Bucs Fans on whether they would be interested in trading for Peppers and an overwhelming majority said YES!, trade for Julius... and so I made a trade offer to Jaxon over at Cat Scratch Reader, our Carolina Panthers Blog. The offer was as follows:

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2008 1st round draft pick (#20) and the Buc's 2009 3rd round draft pick.

The majority of that fan base either wanted more in return (41%) or wanted no part of trading Peppers period (47%)...

My question to you is, Should we up the ante for DE Julius Peppers? To be honest, I was thinking about counter-offering with our '08 2nd Round Draft Pick and MLB Barrett Ruud... I know Ruud led the team in tackles, is young, and embodies what a Bucs player is all about, but we've got to give to get.. Should we continue negotiations or what?

Panthers Don't Need Rudd
Though he's a good player. A DT or OT would be more enticing or Ernest Graham maybe. The fans will still want a #1 pick though.

As you pointed out though, 47% want no part of a trade. They must be confident that last season was a one year anomaly that Pep will correct this season. Sorry Buc fans, you chances of landing Peppers are worse than your chances of winning the NFC South this season, slim to none!!!

haha "Slim to None"
Jaxon, what was your predicted record for the Panthers last season? I'm just busting on you my man

As for a OT or DT, well I doubt you guys would want Petitgout (as he doesnt have the cleanest bill of health) and I would give you Trueblood if it meant putting Peppers in the Pewter and Red, but something tells me you wouldnt want him either.

Does the name Jovan Haye excite you as far as DT's go? I didnt think so, you probably won't want any of those off our roster either...

I suggested Barrett Ruud as he's the one player on our team that's a hot commodity. Tanard Jackson's stock fell when he got injured and everyone else is still proving themselves or preparing for retirement...

As for our chances of acquiring Peppers (we both know and stated it would never happen, this whole deal was to help pass the off-season while having a little fun), but we'd be doing your franchise a favor by trading for Peps, cause you're going to lose him when he becomes a free agent next season anyway and for nothing. I guess if you Franchised him you would get something, but when we make it to the Playoffs again next season, those picks won't be worth much : )

Such an intelligent rebuttle...
I am in awe of your e-peen, that being said, I honestly don't think anyone from the Panthers is worth a first round draft pick, not even Peppers, and definitely not worth trading one of our up and coming stars for.  Considering how weak the division is (this means you Carolina), even our aging, AARP applying offense will steam roll you. Hope you're comfortable in second place, you're going to be there for a while.

i must say
I'd give up our entire 2008 Draft for a one MR. Steve Smith... but thats just me : )

In the words of the facist
I might have misspoken, lol, Steve Smith would be worth quite a few draft picks, Peppers on the other hand, I think we could hold off until he hits FA.

i've got my fingers
crossed Peppers makes it to the Free Agent Market... I wont hold the Steve Smith abberation against you!!!

Continue Negotiations
I think a Peppers and Gaines combo is worth our 1st round pick...(let me explain)this draft is so deep at our positional needs(WR,CB)that we can still get a good player in the second round. But I'm not sure if I would offer Ruud. Then again...our LB Core is very deep with good players. I wouldnt be so eager to give him up though.

oh
I'm definitely not eager to give him up, I seriously thought he was the only player opposing teams would covet.. Our O-Linemen are all trying to make names for themselves and Jeff Garcia would be the first guy to tell you they arent quite there.. The same goes for our DT's, except for Kevin Carter, but nobody wants him outside of Oakland (and we know their crazy)...

So clearly the 1st Round Pick they want, who else would you throw into the pot?

by JScott on Mar 26, 2008 6:26 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

MLB in a 4-3
While it would be impressive and well worth a few bragging rights to be able to have both Gaines Adams and Peppers on the same team, I think Ruud AND a 1st/2nd round Draft pick is a bit steep. In a 4-3 defense the middle linebacker is one of, if not the, single most important posistions on the field. To trade away Ruud would then leave a gaping hole in our defense for a player who could well be past his prime (I'm sorry but 2.5 sacks is a pretty terrible effort, Greg White managed 2.5 sacks in one game!!) I don't think its an issue of the Bucs having to give up more, but that the Panthers have to realise Peppers isn't worth the same as he once was.
Live to Ride!! No Mountain Skills = Hospital Bills

yeah
it would certainly be tough to give up Ruud, especially with the significant role he plays on defense like you said...

I think Peppers will bounce back, he has to much pride and a contract year hanging on the line to just give in to injuries

I'm sure the Panthers will Franchise Tag him next season and make it near impossible to sign him.. I'll keep my fingers crossed though

Welcome to the site man!!
