Holy Crap...what a season. For the off season I'll have a little Matt Cassell please and maybe a side of Brandon Jacobs and T.J Houshmandzadeh. On Defense we GOT to have Julius Peppers or Albert Haynesworth on the line

I know it's early, but seeing we have a shitload of cash to spend.... This is a list of UFA's this off season to look at (I posted this earlier).

Of course were gonna leave the option for a trade, but here are a few of the more interesting UFA’s available out there for 2009:

QB – Matt Cassell, Kurt Warner, Jeff Garcia, Rex Grossman

RB – Brandon Jacobs, Rickey Willams, Darren Sproules, Maurice Morris, Correl Buckhalter

WR – T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Devery Henderson, Bobby Engram, Amani Toomer

TE – Jim Kleinsasser, Eric Johnson, Leonard Pope

OL – Matt Birk, Marc Colombo, Mike Goff, Jordan Gross, Mark Tauscher, Jon Runyan

K/P – (K) Mike Nugent (P) Shane Lechler

DL – Julius Pepper, Terrel Suggs, Albert Haynesworth, Bertrand Berry, Jonathan Babineaux

LB – Ray Lewis, Eric Barton, Karlos Dansby, Mike Peterson, Bart Scott, Jonathan Vilma, James
        Farrior, Channing Crowder, Jordan Beck

DB – Nnamdi Asomugha, Mike Brown, Dawan Landry, Dunte Robinson, Philip Buchanon, Darren
          Sharper

Names that stand out to me are Peppers, Haynesworth, Lewis, Asomugha, Brandon Jacobs, T.J. Houshmandzadeh and any of the O – line to name a few. I’m liking the list of LB too.

Nice Free Agent class! Like JScott said, this is a pivotal off season for us, but at least we appear to be in good shape. Time will tell

Of course I don't know the players who will be slapped with the Franchise tag...

But I doubt the Pats will spend top dollar on a backup QB. Peppers and Haynesworth both might be franchised, however we need at least ONE of them. I’ll take Nnamdi Asomugha and resign Buchanon. Sad but true, Ronde Barber won’t or at least shouldn’t be in the strarting starting lineup next year.

matt cassell

I don’t know if we should throw out too much money for cassell. Let minnesota do that. I worry he might have just succeeded because his experience in the system and them reworking the playbook to suit him..

We need someone who we can be a little more sure that they can get the job done. I’d prefer going after a qb in the draft and relying on McCown and griese this next year. Neither is an upgrade and we won’t know if the rookie will be great, but it does give us the money to throw at Bryant and other players. Instead of throwing it at a possible one hit wonder

id take a one hit wonder

over a no hit rookie, especially since it wont be Bradoford or Stafford.

one hit

Its not a one hit wonder vs a rookie. Its a one hit wonder verses Antonio Bryant, other FA’s, McCown and a rookie.

If it was a choice, I’d make sure that we can keep bryant rather than get cassell

We have enough loot to sign both and then some. I wonder how much Bryant will command in free agency. Hopefully he remembers who put him back on the map...

Here’s another named linked to the Bucs. Donovan McNabb. Earlier Eagles Fans couldn’t get rid of him fast enough. However, making the playoffs changes everything. Watch him sign a 5 year extention to stay in Philly.

Enough of the offense, our defense needs to be revamped a bit. Bye Bye “Stylez” White and Kevin (although serviceable) Carter. This also will be a make or break year for Gaines Adams. We HAVE to have one of either Albert Haynesworth or Julius Peppers though both will probably be franchised.

Give me nearly any of the guys on the LB list of eligible FA’s. I think Derrick Brooks may follow Kiffin out. I say he still has some left in the tank though. He made the Pro Bowl, but it was mostly due to name recognitiion. Ruud was more deserving.

Ronde Barber is killing me. I have seen more burns on him this year than nearly every year combined. Buchanon is a UFA. Resign him then sign Oaklnd CB Nnamdi Asomugha. I hate to talk crap about our HOFers, but it seems like it’s time to move on unless they stay in more of a reserve/leadership role.

Lastly, with Cadillac’s horrific injury (I’m praying for ya man), coupled with the fact Graham was banged up and Dunn is getting old…..I say the Bucs sign a bruiser like Brandon Jacobs(if healthy). I know it would give the Bucs 2 North/South guys with Graham and Jacobs but it we should learn from our mistakes about not having enough quality depth. Clifton Smith just fumbles too much. I prefer he primarily be our KR/PR. Also, I know we have Bidwell, but Lechler is also a FA (did anyone see the leg on that guy)?

LB we need not

I Don’t think we need to even look at FA linebackers. We have so much depth there its not even funny. We can finally move June to HIS position that he’s been waiting for and then move quincy black up to start. We also have Geno Hayes to securely back up June. We are still solid at LB

If we sign Bryant and Cassell for big dollars then we aren’t bringing in Haynesworth, Housh, Peppers or Asomugha. Therefore, I think with our needs, and the experience Cassell is last man out. Every one of those other guys fits a more glaring need and is more of a safe bet than Cassell.

I say let Minny sign Cassell. This puts us at a more likely chance of getting one of the top qb’s in this draft and then we’ll pull a Ryan/Roethlisberger. (with gruden.. yeh right)

Uhh....you must have missed the last half of the season. Our D sucked. Bad. Yes, you can attribute most of it to the D-Line....

However, there’s no way ANY of the guys on Defense outside of Ruud and Talib that should not be worried about job security. What sux is that Buchanon AND Phillips are Free Agents too, so I didn’t count either of them and we need to sign BOTH.

Looks like we draft 20th overall, just like last year. Who should the Bucs draft? Anyone know projections at #20?

Dare I say……"And with the 20th averall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select QB Tim Tebow out of the University of Florida.

I know Timmy T may return for his senior season and that MANY prognosticators don’t have him being dradted in the 1st round, but after typing all that I nearly creamed my drawers think about Tebow as a Buc.

GO GATORS – BEAT DEM SOONERS

I'll also take either of the 2 undercalssman coming out with Tebow in LB Brandon Spikes or WR Percy Harvin. My dream WR is Michael Crabtree, but that won't happen unless we draft up...way up. I'll even settle for Knowshon Moreno at #20 overall....

Of course that’s if we stay there. 2 Ohio State guys come to mind but will probably be gone before we pick. They are LB James Laurinaitis and CB Malcom Jenkins. Wouldn’t it be nice if we had a shot at local product DE George Selvie out of USF? Most insiders have the Bucs beefing up the O-line and Gruden will be sure to pick an offensive guy this year, but I’m defensive minded so go figure.

Sorry I’m talking about the draft so early, but I have to try to get 2008 out of my mind.

by TheUltimateBucFan on Dec 28, 2008 11:27 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

OSU CB Malcom Jenkins is actually projecting a Top 5 so he'll be gone for sure. We have more pressing needs at DL, QB, RB, and WR

As for Selvie, I was thinking he may be available in the 2nd round. DT is a must. If we don’t sign a FA, there are some good ones to choose from in the draft. But whatever we do, we need to a better job up front.

How about QB Graham Harrell out of Texas Tech in the later rounds. Give Josh Johnson some competition.

Tebow

I don’t think he’s coming out this year.. Is he? If he was, I do think he would be THE guy for Gruden’s system. Fast, Creative, Tenacious (man, almost sounds like Garcia), big (nope, not Garcia), can throw the deep ball, pride the size of Russia. The kid would be like having a bigger, more talented and more gutsy Garcia of 20 years ago.

Now, realistically, I agree with ultimatebucfan about the Harvin draft. I think that seems to be the biggest reality. I still disagree with the LB draftings as we have bigger issues such as the D-line itself and CB (which both can be fixed in FA if things go our way). I hope that Allen don’t go for the O-line again this year. I think we have an excellent line for next year (besides Trueblood.. but we have other major holes rather than this annoying prick).

I don’t see us signing a big name Receiver outside of Bryant simply because who’d sign top money to play wr #2 when they can sign top money to play wr#1 somewhere. This is why we need to draft Mr. Harvin.
I think if we have a shot at whatever big 12 QB who comes out in the draft that should be our first pick.

This is a long shot but imagine this scenario – We resign Bryant and Stevens then sign Peppers or Haynesworth plus Asomgah. This leads us to drafting a qb/wr and we’d be scary. Thinking about it and it really isn’t a long shot.

if only we still had mike alstott

Just think how good the bucs would have been if jake plumer wasent such a bitch seriously we need a qb and a new D LINE I MISS MIKE ALSTOTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by imissmikealstott on Dec 29, 2008 1:08 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

jake plummer is an idiot

He wasn’t ever brought here to really be the man. He was always going to be #2 behind Garcia and was only to help light a fire under Garcia. He would’ve been horrible with Gruden.. think Griese but worse. At least, Griese has intelligence. Plummer just thought “hmm.. right there looks like a good spot.. woops I didn’t think about the other team being right in front of him”.

A Vote for Darren Sproles

I think Darren Sproles can be the Michael Turner of 2009 and I’d love to see him do it in Pewter.

With Cadillac out with another knee injury (I love you Caddy, but sorry) and our likelihood of getting another journeyman QB, we have to be strong in the run game. I’m thinking Graham for the power and Sproles for the speed.
