Arizona Cardinals Edgerrin James asked to be released? Bucs to sign him?
Word on the street is Arizona Cardinals RB Edgerrin James asked for his release last week:
"We spoke with [general manager] Rod Graves because Edgerrin still believes he is a 1,000-yard back and he is healthy and he is still capable of being a 1,000-yard back for a team," Rosenhaus said. "He is not playing now, and there are teams that are banged up at the running back position that he could help." - Super Agent Drew Rosenhaus per ESPN.com
The Cardinals have publicly denied the reports, as they should if they are wanting to trade Edge rather than release him out right. Rather than delve into this any deeper, would you be interested in bringing James to Tampa? Do we need him?

It looks like the Cards rejected the request...
…but Edge and Rosenhaus will continue to ask for his release since he won’t be back with the team next year anyway.
Would I want him? I guess it couldn’t hurt, but realistically newly added players rarely contribute if added this late in the season. I say you are 7-3, so stick with what you got and find ways to win. Yes Graham is done, but just keep pushing forward with what you got. I just can’t see it realistically playing out this late in the year that a player of James’ caliber would be let go even if he’s not playing. Especially because another team that could meet the Cards in the playoffs could pick him up. They wouldn’t want that.

Hasn't the trade deadline passed?
Not sure how the NFL trade deadline works but didn’t it pass in week 6?

I don't see AZ releasing him....
at least not during this season. He’s still a quality player. He rushed for over 1200 yards last year. He’s a steady player and has stayed healthy and in the starting lineup for most of his career. Clearly they’re enamored with Hightower this year, but the Edge gives them a great insurance policy. That said, Edge’s salary is too much to pay a backup RB and will likely lead to him landing somewhere else in the offseason. If Warrick Dunn can find the fountain of youth in Florida, why can’t Edge? Hopefully his demands would be reasonable, but with Drew Rosenhaus in his corner….. Heh, right!
Cannons... fire them.

Not what we need...
If Edge couldn’t start in Arizona, where all they do is pass, then why should the Bucs waste draft picks to get him? He’ll probably end up retiring after next season anyway. He’s just not the fix the Bucs need right now.

Its not that he couldn't start...
It’s that his running style clashes with their type of running O, according to both their offensive coordinator and Edge… not to mention they screwed me out of my most solid number 2 RB in fantasy… I’m all for grabbing him as Bucs starter tho.
